Why did Prussia lose Poland after the Napoleonic Wars?

Prussia, despite winning the Napoleonic Wars, never regained a chunk of its Polish lands that it had lost in 1807. So why not and why did it go to Russia? To find out watch this short and simple animated history documentary. Jbbb: Overall nice video and explanation but your point in 2: 05 about religion makes no sense because the Rhineland and Westphalia (except the Ruhr) actually were (and still are) both Catholic-dominated regions. During the Kulturkampf both areas were quite a hotspot of the conflict.

As a Polish person I'd like to say that the creation of the Duchy of Warsaw is one of the reasons why we in Poland tend to like Napoleon up to this day which sometimes surprises foreigners quite a bit. Nevertheless, calling it an independent Polish state is an overstatement. It was rather France's puppet state dependent on her in many ways, not an actual independent country which can have its own military and foreign policy. Even French language was one of the two official languages of the duchy next to Polish (and French is not one of our native tongues here.

It's a pity that they lost it, because if they didn't, central and part of eastern Poland would be much more urbanized and wealthier after the rule of Germans than after the rule of those primitive orcs from the east.

What have we learned here, kids? Better to respect national identity, and draw borders accordingly, than to ignore it in favor of imperial borders. Ok, maybe we never will learn this, but it's the way it SHOULD be.

Poland has been through such difficult times, yet they are such good people. Big ups to the Polish for taking all those punches after the loss of the Commonwealth and ending up stronk once more in the modern day.

What was the Ottoman Empire doing during the Napoleonic wars? I've only found that they tried to get along until Napoleon went to Egypt, but nothing seems to indicate the Ottomans ever joined a coalition

Apparently, Alexander I was so passionate about Polish independence that at the Congress of Vienna, he insisted on making Poland an independent kingdom. Of which he would be king. Obviously.

Polish history must be amazing to learn. We have so little to talk about in America we learn about our Revolution in 6 different grade levels (at least where I went to school)

If anyone is curious and wants to find out more about the post-Napoleonic border disputes and negotiations, Historia Civilis has a great video series on the Congress of Vienna.

The duchy of Warsaw was not really independent as it was in a personal union with Saxony and as such they did somewhat have freedom but still didn t fully have it

Your pace of delivery is incredible! I had to watch and carefully listen twice to grab the full story.
Compliments for the video,

A video on post-Napoleonic European politics? Don't mind if I do.

You get the feeling that in some parts of European the first question each morning was not what's for breakfast but was which country are we now.
