Bismarck was genuinely amazing. One of the greatest statesmen the world has ever seen. Other people have brought about great change through military intervention, but in matters of bringing about the most change with pure statesmanship, Bismarck stands alone.
Although, seriousness apart, I wanted him to jump through the daisy field like other people do. Not walk all seriously. Don't make exceptions for anyone. That meme is pure gold

Beside Bismarck, a great actor of German unification is the economist List, who described how economy could be used to achieve strategic goals. Hence the Zollverein (custom union, the 19th century equivalent of today's China Silk Road, developing profitable trade but also creating mutual dependencies between states, for the diplomatic profit of the stronger one.

Denmark only claimed Schleswig as part of the kingdom of Denmark not Holstein. That was the issue. In the London Protocol from the first Schleswig war it was agreed that Denmark wasn't allowed to split the two ducies like that. (That is at least how I understood it. Please correct me if I'm mistaken)

The Zollverein didn't come around until 1834. 1819 was when Baden proposed it, and lots of other small customs unions were established from 1818 until the early 1830s. These were then combined into the Zollverein.

You should do a video on why literally no one has ever bothered Switzerland through all the massive European wars. I mean they have the banks, but was that the reason back in 1870 n all?

In Austria, the Hungarians attempted to break away
Does it seem like a problem to anybody else that the Hungarians were trying to break away from the Austro-HUNGARIAN empire?

Princip wasn't a Serbian nationalist, he was a Bosnian Serb. Austria committed genocide on Bosnian Serbs which is why they hated their aristocrats so much.

The German word used by the Napoleonic France in the same way used by Romans before them,
They were both afraid of the Germanic tribes!

Living in Alsace can't help but correct the pronunciation - it is 'el-z-ass'. Oh, and Zollverein is 'ts-oh-l-fer-eye-n'.

Bismark must have been an extremely interesting person. His actions had profound simplifications on the world to this day.
