Ten Minute History - The Rise of the Ottoman Empire Short Documentary Mareth: This is all a LIE! Dont believe this fake propaganda. What really happened was in November 1444, a certain person known as The Player became the Emperor of Byzantine Empire known as Player the First. In year 1448 a war broke out between Byzantine and the Ottomans which Byzantine won thanks to help of Albania and Walachia. With total victory Byzantine managed to reclaim Greece and essentially split Ottomans into two. What followed was a rapid reclamation of former Byzantine territory throughout Europe which ended with reestablishment of true Roman Empire in 1810s. Due to major succeses the player was awarded proper achievements and top rank on official scoreboard of countries (something like FIFA rankings but cooler) upon his death on 2nd January 1821.
THANK YOU!

Fun Fact: Many educated Turkish people hate Ottoman's rulers and their policies.
Ottoman rulers didn't identify themself as Turks. They never married a Turkish woman(some exceptions. Generally looked down on Turks as nation. They didn't invest in any education, infrastructure etc in regions where only Turks have lived. But of course they taxed the hell out of them. The word Turk used as an insult inside the palace. Turkic people forced to move near borders, forced to expand and defend them. As stated in the video, people of higher rank were not Turkish. No Turkish people were allowed to get high ranks in palace(some exceptions.

I don't understand why Ottoman attrocities are always being hiden. Religious freedom was a joke in the OTT empire. There was a ''blood tax'' where christian kids will be taken from their family and were made janisarries and send to fight other christian countries. Also the numerous genocides like Batak massacre and many more are never mentioned. The ottomans were as bad as the Nazis if not worse because the nazis existed for 10years while the Ottomans for 500years and surely killed many more.

If the ottomans agreed to sell cheaper pepper
Canada, The United States of America, Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Cuba, The Bahamas, Jamaica, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Dominica, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Grenada, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, St Lucia, and Antigua and Barbuda might have never existed.

I just realised that if the ottomans had somehow opened the Suez Canal then the Indian Ocean trade would be in their control or at least have an incredibly lucrative taxation taking place. The Portuguese would lose a major foothold they have built up in the Indian ocean, the Suez canal is extremely important, and if they had opened it the battle for the eastern Mediterranean would have been for a different reason altogether.

Wrong they were not kidnapped but given a better life and neither they where converted because once they became big older they would become commanders and higher status and rank in society and this was one of their great downfall of the Ottomans. Osman to Mehmet 2 they where the best leaders of the ottoman empire.
Different leader means different objectives.
And man is born and he thinks himself as incomplete.

Calling devshirme as slaves while knowing how slaves were treated even all around the world following centuries kind of absurd. They were paid for their work and were free as any citizen, probably much more powerful xd Modern romanticism I guess, but it wasn't their choice) Lol, how free was serfs(slaves) in rest of the Europe by then?

The way you've made a video it gives an impression that the fight in the Balkans was between the Byzantines and the Ottomans and no one else. how come you haven't mentioned the other Balkan kingdoms is just beyond me. those same countries exist today btw. I am sorry but I could not watch until the end.

No mention of the Battle of Diu? The Portuguese Naval dominance was the final nail in the rise of the Ottoman's coffin: It crushed their navy so badly that the Ottomans would never again be a formidable naval power. It's actually similar to the Battle of Lepanto in how it changed the world.

Yes, I certainly did enjoy this wonderful summary, animated in both illustration and narration. I wish I had had this webpage at hand during my undergraduate studies which included the Ottoman Empire. It is definitely chok gyooZELL - very beautiful. Thank you!

The fact that byzantium lasted over a millennium is something right? Yeah sure it was a vassal at the last days, but still, a millennium, thats a lot longer than any other empire I can think of, other than maybe its pre split Rome empire.

I just found out that Mehmed II became the sultan for the second time because the grand vizier replaced him with his father after his father was not the sultan for whatever reason which made Mehmed execute the vizier.

Imagine being the Ottoman Empire and killing the remnants of the Roman Empire and then taking almost as much territory as western Roman Empire had and then just losing every war until you become turkey
reply

I dunno if someone can become the grand vezire of the sultan, is he really still a slave? Also taking the children and converting them to their religion. Hmmm. kinda reminds me of the Jedi. xD

1: 28 I'm surprised there wasn't a joke about the Byzantines calling on their fellow Christians for help, maybe along the lines of, Because when had that ever gone wrong for them?
reply

5: 44 like most mortals, Salim eventually died. Hmm. most mortals. Who's the mortal that didn't eventually die? Could it be me? and/or could it also perhaps be. J. James Bissonet
reply

5: 54 Suleiman was quick to follow in his father's footsteps by conquering Belgrade and Rhodes
I thought he's gonna say that Suleiman quickly died after his father did

Portugal's navy was the best at the time so of course the ottomans wouldn't beat us for the Mediterranean territories, we even took Oman out of their sphere of influence
reply

We take it for granted now, but the Ottomans could have become a major player in central Europeaan politics if they had made it past the Balkans.
