I would not lose so great an honour
As one man more methinks would share from me
For the best hope I have. O, do not wish one more!
Rather proclaim it, Westmorland, through my host,
That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart; his passport shall be made,
And crowns for convoy put into his purse;
We would not die in that man's company
That fears his fellowship to die with us.
St. Crispin's Day Speech from Henry V, Act IV, Sc. 3, by William Shakespeare circa 1599

For most of human history, people lived in small agrarian communities. You knew everyone in the village, and knew the name of everyone in about 10 miles. If a stranger showed up, it was big news. If you were not from that location, and wanted to settle down and live in that location? Suspicion, fear, and then violence. Mass national identification and control is only about 2 C old? It used to be handled on the local level. (hang 'em)
(this entire description does not apply to the wealthy elites)

If you observe you will notice that passports was a European invention and exclusive the Europe it is not ancient, and civilizations far older never had passports. The earth belongs to everyone and no one should prohibit anyone from going anywhere. People in contemporary society believe they are free but we cant even travel without permission permits and passport.

I have a large 1 page U. S. passport issued to an American around 1898 whom lived in Belgium where his wife died. I inherited two other red booklet type U. S. passports, one issued by the Territory of the Philippines and another from the mainland. Both were taken up (cancelled) in Los Angeles I945. My own passport expired in 2000.

When I returned to the US, to the Great Lakes region, after some years overseas, I had to open a bank account. Without any other valid form of identification, like a driver's license, I presented my passport to the banker. The reply was what's this? She had never seen a passport before.

Safe conduct is not the same thing as permission to travel, at least in England. Safe conduct was granted to foreigners, mostly dignitaries or those on government business, and granted them safe passage--meaning they could not be molested or harmed while on official business.

When did passports become a thing? ; what kind of language is that, I bet this phrase thing was invented by someone of the Shit-Head Generation ( born after 1990. The correct way to phrase the topic of this video is:
When did passports first come into existence

As recently as the early-mid 2000s you did not need a passport for most north american travel. After 9/11 they changed that and now you need either a full out passport or a passport card which could also be an enhanced drivers license.

Fun fact, Felice Orsini was a part of the same Orsini family who held the Papacy when the Papal States were created in 756 AD. He was also related by blood to Pope Julius II from the Rovere family of Genoa who was called The Warrior Pope

Passport travelling is one thing, but a couple of hundred years ago, I guess the main obstacle was the travel in itself, and if you managed to make it all the way, there hardly were some border control agent to turn you around.

US and Canada didn't require passports for entry until after 9/11. Before that any picture ID and birth certificate would suffice. Americans and Americans have never needed VISAs to travel between countries.

Borders & permission are ancient & logical. Yet today the idiotic UN in their make believe fantasy consider it a human right to FORCE Entry & Settlement into a country without permission.

Someone need to educate this guy that Ireland never was or never will be part of Britain as it is a different island. He has made this mistake in a couple of these now.

I love how he used turkish passport to tell it is not a permission to travel, because with turkish passport there are very little number of places you can go

Interesting to use an of a image of the Canadian/US border. Passports were not needed to cross it until George Bush Jr made it mandatory about 20 years ago.

Passports are so last century. Now you can go anywhere you like, just as long as your willing to work for a third of what the natives earn.
