Why did Spain give up Gibraltar? well thats a load of nonsense half my family was original spanish gibralterians and they was completly spanish and never wanted gibralter to be british as always with england its all fixed fake vote results to get the results that they want n make people think they had a choice or say in the matter. after the air raid attacks nearly killed my grandad n hes family with bullets flying thru hes roof into the house my great grandfather sold up all 5 of hes family businesses and houses and bought houses in england and moved them alll to england as they thought whats the point staying there if they was getting air raided and the place was already classed as english now too then they might as well just move to england anyway where it was safer n across the water further away from europe n all the natzis n french etc. and then endured the ww2 in england too. n fighted for uk army n my grandad met my english nan n had my mum n her brothers which is how i ended up being half english and half spanish and being a british citizen. n the way england is going with our gov n our inflation n low wages n impossible to afford house prices and mortgages i wiish they stayed in spain n had me there. better weather more freedom, nicer life. and houses and land are actually affordable.\r\n

Gibraltar has a pretty neat flag! It's the only British Overseas Territory flag to not have the Union flag on the upper left corner of the flag! The flag was adopted in November 1982 and is based on the coat of arms of Gibraltar, granted by Royal Warrant from Queen Isabella I of Castile in July 1502! The castle represents Gibraltar's status as a strategic fortress, while the key represents Gibraltar being the key to the Mediterranean. -
The largest battle of the American Revolution by number of combatants didn't even take place in what's now the US! It was actually that time you mentioned Spain tried to take Gibraltar from 1779 to 1783! Spain, joining the side of France, saw Gibraltar as their primary aim. Spain and France had a combined strength of 65, 000 while Britain and Hanover defended Gibraltar with 7, 500 and 12 gunboats! The assault was a humiliating failure, and a British relief convoy under Howe sneaking in past a barricade and joining the garrison in October 1782 sealed the deal

I visited Gibraltar 12 years ago and fell in love with the place and its people! During my visit, I learned many of the historical details outlined in this video that relate to Gibraltar-s ongoing connection with Britain. One thing not mentioned in the video is that citizens of Gibraltar enjoy benefits the same benefits as British citizens, such as higher education and healthcare, which provide a higher standard of living than is common in Spain. On a side note, a Gibraltar restaurant served me the BEST fish and chips I have ever eaten. Absolutely delicious!

I like Gibraltar but it's also a weird place - it's like a pokey British town on the side of a mountain and everything is in miniature - small highstreet, small supermarkets etc. since space is at a premium. There is absolutely no doubt at all that the people living there consider themselves British and have no intention of uniting with Spain. The funny part is Spain also has enclaves in Morocco and there is a little bit of -you too- going on whenever they complain about Gibraltar.

3: 18, Spain didn't lose Florida in the aftermath of American Revolutionary War.
Spain, along with USA, were the winner in American Revolutionary War, with England, French, and Dutch as the losers. Spain gained Minorca from that war, and there was a sense of rejuvenation in Spain navy after a century under England's navy shadow. The territory of Florida was sold some three decades later to USA, it was not lost during that war.

The Treaty of Utrecht. Signed on 13 July 1713, Article X cedes to the British Crown -the full and entire ownership of the city and castle of Gibraltar, together with its port, defences and fortresses belonging to it-.
It says nothing about the airport, waters or the isthmus or surrounding lands. All that land has been illegally taken from Spain. And all this is a breach of the treaty and entitles Spain to terminate it.

Can't say I have ever given Gibraltar much thought, but after watching this video, I have a newfound respect for the Gibraltians; they sound like they are more patriotic with a love of being British and independent than too many wet lettuces here in the UK who would gladly sign our nation over to the EU to be dictated to.

What the hell are the Britich doing in that part of the world. Spain should defenietly get ther land back. I hope the the U. K dosn't destroy Gibralter the way they destroyed ther own country, with mass imagration from thrid world countries.

you should do a show on how Britain has caused most of the worlds major problems we face today, for instance Iraq, Pakistan India conflict, most of the middle east issues, problems in South America, Africa and the far east

8: 39 No sub normal is because they masacred the iberian population and put british so now they bote for themself. If we go to london, kill and force to move everyone, bring spanish people and made a referendum we take london?
reply

There-s no way in HELL we Americans would want to become British. Let-s be honest though, the Brits are top class when it comes to stealing lands. No one beats them. Funny enough, we Americans inherited that trait from them.

The fact that people are comparing ths to Ceuta and Melilla
They're two total different cases since Spain had Ceuta and Melilla before the existance of Morroco
And the UN recognizes Gibraltar has a colony

My grandmother was born and raised in Gibraltar. She was so proud of it. Her family moved to New York, where she met a son of an Italian and got married. Then they moved to Costa Rica. My mom visited Gibraltar on 2011.

Vichy French were busy exporting Jewish French to the Nazis at thatime. We faught them in Algeria too and sank there fleet of ships. Due to the fact the French had a big navy and were controlled by Germany.

Why isn't Gibraltar Spanish? Because the UK stole it. Why isn't Northern Ireland Irish? Because the UK stole it. Why isn't the Las Malvinas Argentinian? Because the UK stole it. Why isn't.

It is a pity the people of Hong Kong and Macau were not consulted by plebiscite if they wanted to stay with the UK and Portugal or be part of Red China, or be independent.
reply

They didn-t give to up, we conquered it and kept it despite a long and vicious siege, a siege which took more supplies and troops than the American rebels.
reply

Asking the people who lives in Gibraltar now if they want to be Spanish is like asking a house squatter if they volontarily would like to vacate the premises.
reply

So what sense does it make for the British to argue they are separate from Europe when they insist of maintaining Gilbraltar which is on the continent?
reply

Does people in Gibraltar want to stay with UK. because in internet I saw that they want to regarded as a British territory. is it true. bdw i am indian

Funny though that giblater can have a referedum do exit Great Britain, but Catalonia can't have a referdum to exit Spain (or the Basque for that matter)
reply

Just a comment to remind you that the country that you now call the USA used to belong to natives which they were NOT; British, Spanish, Dutch or French.

If Spain has a problem with Gibraltar being British, they should cede ceuta and other territories in North Africa to Morroco.
