Learning and practising scales and arpeggios can seem like a waste of time to many students. In this video, we explore the why spending time practising scales and arpeggios can really help improve your playing technique. -Oh no, not scales and arpeggios- is the plea of many musicians. What is the point of scales and arpeggios? Do we really need them? Are scales and arpeggios little more than a form of musical torture? Can-t we just learn pieces? These are all fair questions but maybe if we understand the point of learning scales and arpeggios we will be convinced that there are several good reasons for doing so. One reason is to get us familiar with each key, and many pieces make use of scale and arpeggio patterns within the given key. Another reason is to develop technical control, essential for any musician. Scales and arpeggios also help us to work at delivering even rhythm and even tone. We can use scales and arpeggios to work on legato and staccato playing. We can learn how to inject musical shape across a scale or an arpeggio. I'm very confused on what is so special and different about Paganini Scales? There are Paganini scale exercises and also Paganini has a different way of playing scales but I'm not sure what is so different about how Paganini plays scales or what is his trademark scale sequencing and scale note groupings. I know that each classical composers often use -note groupings- but I'm not sure what Note groupings they use that is common for classical music that most composers used.
