Learn all about the plagal cadence, also known as the amen cadence, which chords it uses and how it sounds. Do you want to know about the plagal cadence? What is a plagal cadence? Where would you use a plagal cadence? How can you hear a plagal cadence? Cadences are a means of musical punctuation. The perfect cadence and plagal cadence are musical full stops, the imperfect cadence is a musical comma, and the interrupted cadence is a musical question mark. This music theory lesson focuses on the plagal cadence, explaining what a plagal cadence is and helping you to hear a plagal cadence. Useful for composers, performers, those needing to identify cadences in exams, and those working on aural tests. to cadences 0:49 - What chords does a plagal cadence use? 1:56 - Using the plagal cadence 3:47 - An example of the plagal cadence in a piece of music

Great video! Would you mind doing a video on how to identify the last three chords at a cadence point from section Aiii of the aural part of the Grade 8 ABRSM exam?

Which notes historically are used for the -amen-? When I play IV-I, I feel like degree 4 to degree 3 is the -amen- sound in my head but I'm not sure.

Hello just quickly, I was wondering in order for it to be plagal does it have to end from an F chord to C or was that just an example?

Thanks for this helpful video. I'm researching Plagal movement as it relates to the work of Erik Satie. What do you think about it?
