0: 22 The subconscious saboteur
Understanding the subconscious influence behind your bad habits can help you gain control and finally break free of them. Upon the queue, consider replacing the Bad habit with a good one like walking, talking with friends, or a creative pursuit.
0: 57 The habit loop hijack
Habits form as queue, routine, reward - upon noticing the queue, replace the Bad habit with a good one - next time you feel stressed.
1: 50 The dopamine dilema
the Bad habits spark a craving. The relaxing cigarette, the mindfulless fun of bingeing a Psych2Go video; the payoff is quick, thinking watching a 5 minute video will solve all your problems finally - it's disguised as a harmless indulgence. Do it enough times and it'll quickly turn into a bad habit before you know it.
2: 35 the illusion of willpower
stress will chip away at our discipline and resilience, but understanding this will help you work with your brains natural processes rather than against it.
3: 03 how to flip the script
Rather than remove the Bad habits, Terry to swap them out for something healthier instead. Or create a reward system.
When we resist, there's no pleasure, no incentive to keep going. Start with swapping Bad habits with something healthier. Or create a reward system.
Bad habits involve a lack of awareness. Start with an intentional choice and action. Acknowledge your actions without judgement. This helps you detach from those emotions that keep you tied to those habits. (Guilt, shame, restless, discontent)

The one thing that helped me most with kicking these habits is the phrase 'Resistance is my compass' - your brain tricks you by suggesting you avoid a task and do something more short term fulfilling, however if you use it as your guide of what to do next you can actually kick these bad habits. Plus there's research that shows this resistance is just your norepinephrine system kicking in before you start.
I hope this helps you random comment reader! Happy bad habit kicking: )

Hey I want to ask how to deal with unfairness. In my case I see a group of people that are supposed to follow the same rule as us, and even if they are supposed to follow the same they can be the exception of the rule and it creates such a rage of injustice that I want to take action into my own hands. Do you have any tips

I made an alarm for each hour of the day. When it sounds i jave to think what am i doing and what am i supposed to be doing or have done by then. That has been my awarness. Hour to hoyr goals and a remainder that the hour is gone.

I found a perfect way to break my habit of not exercising! It's one of those arrow dancing games that can be hooked up to any song ir video, I should go outside more tho. and now I acknowledge that without judgment

I’m currently trying to quit smoking marijuana. The problem is i’ve been relying solely on my willpower (which has been working so far) but I don’t know what good habits I’d be willing to replace it with.
reply

Your bad habits keep winning because you’re seeking an escape from the current reality. You’re trying to numb the pain by disconnecting from your emotions. Instead, you need to go within and accept how you feel.

I feel it’s mostly an escape with phone, tablet, ect, cause I’m still stuck living with parents. On one bright side, I do a lot of drawings and have gotten into a book series.
