Is the United States a Country? Okay well if the conclusion is that the United States is not a country but a union of states or a federation then you are correct. The term United States has four different definitions in law and it is important to distinguish between each one. Abraham Lincoln when levying war against the states committed treason which is the first definition of what treason is in the Constitution. It blows my mind no one sees this because of so much indoctrination into fake history in public schools. Oh yeah and the part where they get you emotionally involved by telling you he freed the slaves which he did not. All laws that are passed by the federal government only apply in Washington DC or in the federal territories. They have absolutely no jurisdictional power to operate except by that which was given them in the organic Act of 1871 which thereby they can regulate commerce and make laws in the United States which means in federal territory or federal areas within a state. Fort ports and Needful Things. The federal government truly does not have any power whatsoever inside the several States and never has, the problem is people believe they do and the problem is the government's we have in our states called the state of governments which are corporations and subsidiaries and franchises of the federal government which only have power regulate commerce, contract and operate in federal areas. A US citizen is a Federal corporate citizen, a legal fiction and represented by you if you so claim that was created for the purpose of serving its Master the federal government. There are many Supreme Court cases out there that says that Congress and the federal government have absolutely no power over the state citizen which is polar opposite to a US citizen. See Mayberry versus Madison and Chisholm verse Georgia I believe

Got a lot of the more important parts wrong though. Understandable since the education system gets it wrong as well. Of course the federal government likes it that way. The people give their state its power [or not] and the states lend the federal government their power [or not], the constitution heavily limits the federal government, much of what the federal government does now is not in their power to do and overreach, violation of the constitution. The federal government is really only intended to be a referee between the states and representative of the states to the rest of the world. The federal government was intended to fund itself with levees and tariffs so that the federal was incentivized to represent and promote the states to finance themselves, or to go hat in hand to the states to ask for extra funding. The house was supposed to represent the people and the senate was to represent the states as a whole, answerable to the states government from where they were appointed by the state government. A couple of amendments later and the federal has been sucking the country dry for decades with taxes. The senate is answerable to no one, well at the very least with a 8 year term are able to depend on the short attention span of the people so that the senate mostly does as they please. So now the federal government is in for itself and whatever it can squeeze out of people and the states who are too dumb to even insist on states rights, or too greedy and afraid they will not get the next round of federal money/grants [kickbacks].

Guantanamo is not claimed by the United States. Both Cuba and America agree that it is Cuba's sovereign territory.
States are not granted power by Congress, America is a federation, not a unitary state. Specific powers are reserved to the states by our constitution and Congress is granted largely specific and limited powers.
The Civil War wasn't about the supremacy of federal law, that had long been settled by previous court cases that found things like nullification to be unconstitutional. The question at issue in that war was over whether states had the specific power to secede (as well as the future of slavery but that wasn't the legal question at issue.
You forgot that federal land is not subject to the jurisdiction of states.

Many declare themselves their nationality but not all states have a culture to their state thus a -proud to be (state born local/given state person) -
California is too cosmopolitan to have declared a culture to Californian pride at least here in Southern California. I DON'T KNOW if in Central or Northern or any rural area since it's usually a culture of rural based culture that in these given growing civilizations that spring into local pride of an area.

The civil war did not decide that federal law always Trumps state law. Only an amendment to the constitution can amend the constitution. The 10th Amendment says state law supersedes federal law unless otherwise stated. Read the 10th amendment.
The civil war also did not say states cant leave the union.
The civil war only decided that states can't leave the union without the consent of the other states.

i haven't watched the EU video, but Brexit happened. that is a big difference between the EU and the US. Like you stated in this video, if for example California voted to leave the union it would not mean anything because after the vote took place they would still find themselves as part of the US, unlike the situation with Brexit. We are a collection of semi-sovereign states but we are definitely a country
reply

The only difference between the US and the EU is that the EU isn't a country and the US is.
Well there should be some kind of difference beyond what you call it, or you're kidding yourself.
But to be fair, we've been kidding ourselves that the United States -is- a country since Lincoln, so it's mostly not the fault of people alive today.
Hope that doesn't make me a grammar Nazi.

Puerto Ricans are more likely to sue for independence than for statehood. They would have to pay income tax, they would lose even more of their sovereignty and they are culturally very different from the rest of the U. S, as well as being cut off by the ocean, so what would be the benefit for them becoming a state?
reply

The U. S. is not a country. The U. S. means a federal corporation. Refer to Title 28 Section 3002 (15) (A. America doesn't have a government, though it is being dictated to by a foreign and independently totalitarian city-state within the borders of the treasonous District of Columbia.

The United States are a federation of currently fifty sovereign states that are United, and convene in Congress based in the District of Columbia. The States are not subdivisions, and the federal government shares jurisdiction with the United States of America.
reply

It's almost as if the states are different countries in and of them selves, due to the various cultures, laws, dialect and mannerisms. Like, say, Africa in how it's broken up into different territories which are countries, but reside in the same continent.

The USA is the only country in the America's with the name -America- in it. Hence, it is grammatically correct to refer to the USA as -America-. Sorry there, Forrest, but you just don't know what you are talking about.
reply

You forgot that United States is country and reason why it is so complicated because of how founding fathers setup United States and it-s constitution. It is how government was setup in 1787.

Read some state constitutions and you-ll discover each state is a country. The People have all the power and not the citizens. Learn the difference if you want to be free.

US is just a sanctuary for when an overseas country is failing. Rn Latina America and Muslims are moving to the us. Maybe in a decade or two Africa would be next

Two wars were fought about this. With the states identity thing i've only heard 4 states indentify by their state. Texas, Florida, California, and New York.

No guantonomo bay isn't part of the us. We lease it from Cuba it was part of the agreement when we granted them independence after the Spanish war

The United States is such a mismatch of laws that don-t make sense and ideals that don-t match - it-s a house of cards doomed to fall, and likely soon.

Outdated, but a nice snapshot of the past. I like how much marijuana laws and the Reservation Formerly Known As Oklahoma have changed.

That-s why one of the phrases is E Plurbus Unium. Out of many, one.
I maybe a Marylander, but I think myself as American.
