Dig into the delicate balancing act of how power grids supply energy to the world and how renewable energy factors into this process. In 1967, Homer Loutzenheuser flipped a switch and connected the power grids of the United States, forming one interconnected machine. Today, the US power grid is the world s largest machine, containing more than 7, 300 electricity-generating plants. So how exactly do these power plants work? Henry Richardson digs into the delicate balancing act of how power grids supply us energy. Jim: fun fact about windmills: over 500 cubic inches in concrete must be poured over 20 tons of steel into the ground to secure a single on in place forever destroying the ground as well as making the steel impossible to recycle for any other project. doesn't seem to green to me

But what exactly constitute a single machine? If you look a t it from another angle, it could also be a series of different interconnected machines, each one operating on their own.

Why aren't we just going with small modular nuclear reactors?
Seems like anything else is just not worth it. and yes, nuclear is very safe (just do a little homework.

well. the internet is a machine. just as much as the entire world as a system is a machine; with an input and an output and many many different components

Sorry, but the European Continental Synchronous Grid is the biggest (including North Africa and Turkey) and serves more than double the amount of customers.

Cool video but I don t really think that s one machine, my vote would ve gone to the large hadron collider. Now that would be a cool video

Map of US Power Grid was inaccurate. It should have a dark spot where Texas is, since they are not part of the US Power Grid.
