I don't often post comments here, but I think people demonize private transportation to an absolutely ridiculous level. Cars have enabled most of humanity's progress in the last decades. Without cars, trucks, planes, trains and ships, none of what's being described in this video is even fathomable.
A car means personal freedom and independency; yes, at the moment they're not at all where they should be in terms of technology, but still, electric car batteries will get better, this energy mix in developed countries will get greener, and the overall supply chain will evolve towards a more sustainable model. The solution to a greener, better future is NOT depriving people of their lifelines, livelihood and autonomy - it's about changing the way we do things. People in rural France, or gigantic Australia, are not going to let go of their cars, because they simply would not be able to live the life they want without them. However, if you can make those cars competent enough whilst also making them electric and hooking them to a green grid, then you've hit jackpot.
Please stop car-bashing; it's such a city-dweller, middle-upper class mindset.

this is such a bad video doesn't even point out the future AI is going to have in a couple of years especially when added with companies like figure's semi-autonomous AI robots. It also doesn't comment on how with the widening gap between the rich & poor how would the earth suddenly curve to being equal in the span of a century
The idea of money transactionally would have to cease for this to be possible but that won't happen because the idea of the value of having money won't go away in people's head especially that of the rich so money will probably exist in a locked state since there would be no demand for jobs since AI could probably do anything or almost anything thus creating a futuristic feudalist society where people are controlled by fake money which would be akin to royal family but with money instead of ancestry or knowledge from the gods

It's funny that essentially all proposed awesome futures are predicated upon technological advances, and have been so for for at least a century or so. Yet no matter how far technology develops and advances, we just get the Same Old Sh1t with technologically advanced sh1tiness to make it that much sh1ttier.
Maybe technology is not the grounds for any truly awesome future (or present, or past. Maybe technology is merely a multiplier of the state of our preexisting degree of awesomeness or sh1ttiness. Maybe that state of being is what needs to be examined and worked with primarily and not merely our toys and games.

The makers of this video clearly had good intentions but I think they are incorrect. Will the future be wonderful and awesome If humanity is fortunate, yes. But will the future be like this Probably not. I mean no one on this planet alive today could possibly be able to fathom what 2125 will be like. If technologies like AI, robotics etc. are going to continue advancing, then humans will inhabit a world in the future that is totally incomprehensible to us today. Also, I think this video doesn't go far enough in its predictions. For example, what if we lived in a world where no one needed to be in a wheelchair

Thank you Ted-Ed for this essential video in this doomed times but you only mentioned half of what Solarpunk represents.
Solarpunk is as mutch living in harmony with nature than between humans.
The Punk in it is not there for nothing. Solarpunk can only exists in a world deprived of authoritarianism and capitalism. Solarpunk promotes indeed a society of direct democracy and social economy in which everyone is truely socialy equal.
Ecology without class struggle is just gardening (Chico Mendes, Brazilian trade unionist)

Solar Punk is Politically Correct serfdom if ever one considers Planck's Constant and PI 3. 19 radius squared 2 since real estate land area needed for solar energy and rail transit would require energy to traverse such an area to literally come from a hide of a worker.
A case in point a local tool & dye maker at one time was an excellent machinist until they became so ossified in of old time Americana such as being a love of outdoors rail fan or trolley jolly train fiend they developed Alzheimer's.

Dear people of 2125,
How are you Things are not going well for us at the moment. If you're watching this video and you happen to read this, I hope everything is going great. I hope you finally achieved humanity's potential. If you're not, on behalf of everyone from the 21st century, we tried. We tried hard and you have every right to feel disappointed.
Sincerely,
Caveman.
P. s. Is there a chance you have interstellar space travel If so what's it like

By 2125, the Earth likely to face irreversible environmental collapse, with rising sea levels, extreme weather, and widespread biodiversity loss. Climate change and resource scarcity may lead to overpopulation, food shortages, and inequality. Technological divides could further separate the wealthy from the rest, while global conflicts over dwindling resources intensify. Governments likely to struggle to cope, leaving humanity to face a grim, divided future.

Dystopian of how you depict rail transit and bicycles to herd citizens into solar agricultural serfdom to play on a myth of a lush primal wilderness.
Sunlight and vegetation causes poverty and disease of how rail transit tracks were built on Coolies.
Decauville Portable trains or trolleys of 1884 Bolan Pass Afghanistan similar to Scherl monorail.
No Escape (1994) similar to Qing Dao monorail to sweetshop rubber plantations.

I love being positive about the future - however let's remember that for these advances, there are trade offs. These technologies are very metal heavy, so we would need to mine more (and take into account the environmental effects of those. Just the batteries needed to power these would need such a crazy amount of lithium. It's better than the alternative of pollution, but we cannot truly be green and waste free.

Sustainable development is important, but:
1. That version of LA sounds like a communist dystopia
2. In that version of Lagos, how does the city trade and feed itself without deep water ports
3. The Sao Paolo sounds fine.
It’s great people are thinking big, but care needs to be taken in the messaging to avoid giving fuel to the fossil fuel industry to scare off the centre.

It’s my understanding that floating fish farms breed disease and harm local populations of wild fish. A more sustainable method would be to protect and restore fish habitat, practice responsible wild-caught fishing practices, and culture fish meat from cells. Better yet, reduce or eliminate animal proteins from your diet, and increase plant-based proteins instead.

There would probably have to a genuinely serious war if we were to take down the auto and oil industry. Either way, a lot of people are going to die. When I realized that many years ago I gave up. Then I lost my best friend to hustle culture. Now I don't care about much. I even quit my job and don't feel like having one ever again. I'm 27 and I'm suddenly so lost.

interesting how sci-fis tend to portray future as bleak and inhuman, with technology used for ill purposes, when as shown here, technology can be, and some has been, used for the greater good
it's really up to people in power to decide what they do with resources
and up to us to vote the right people into suitable positions

Just when I thought Ted Ed couldn't produce a more cringe video it once more does so. Why are recent videos being so centered on Africa Yet none from real progressive countries like South East Asia, Europe, etc. Where the real changes are being done and are feasible.
Just shows that the woke has reached even Ted Ed. SMH

Why would any of this be cheaper than ruining the planet If the answer is that it wouldn't, this might be our future but only after close to an extinction event from running out of oil and harmful means of energy, well after most of the planet has become uninhabitable for humans again like it originally was

1: 00-1: 08 This way of making it free seems unrealistic; they'll only realistically be free if paid through taxes
Also, in 2125, desalination could allow LA to get water from the ocean
2: 50-2: 57 Lastly, how does fish processing allow us to power things

I love how we already know what we have to do, yet we won't just do it, because it's complicated and those in power and with money just don't care. Instead of creating a comfortable life, we need to sell stuff, buy stuff, and that's it
