A big tip I can give to fellow procrastinators: The first step I always do is promise myself I WON'T work on it that day and ONLY do all preparation for it without actually starting work, so getting everything I need ready, opening up tabs that I need to get the job done and planning out exactly what needs to be done to get it finished. Usually when I have it all laid out in front of me like that suddenly the task looks very small and manageable, the urge to procrastinate evaporates and I get the job done. I still struggle sometimes but this trick has eliminated about 80% of my procrastination times. Somehow by promising yourself you won't do the work and merely prepare you can do it because it doesn't count to your brain.

What if you procrastinate from the things you like doing, like drawing, or playing the guitar, or running. etc. because you've been distracted by technology?
I've been like that many times, thinking that i wanna do something inside my head, that i believe it's fun, but then i procrastinate, and stay on the phone or pc. If it's something important like work it's even worse, afterwards i feel like someone punched a hole throughout my heart, why is it so much easier to give up, rather than to keep going? Even when you want to. you can't, just wish this would be easier, that would make everything more enjoyable.

This was so validating and encouraging for a chronic procrastinator like me. Especially the part that mentions that you should have self-compassion and forgive yourself. Everyone knows that doing stuff last minute or submitting work in a delay isn't acceptable or even practical. So there is no need to try to remind people who procrastinate how lazy they are for not doing their tasks. Because we know, and because we are very aware of that and actually care too much about that, it feels even worse. You don't need to beat me up for my procrastination, I already beat myself up the whole time.

I would love to be able to translate it into Spanish and, as before, upload the translation. That way it would reach more people who need it.
I would also like a second video on methods to effectively deal with negative emotions on your own (for people who are not affected enough to need a psychologist) and techniques for breaking down an enormous task into actionable steps (such as a Gantt chart, etc) even if superficially, and the author's final thoughts.

Because it feels good because it's comfortable? My reaction to tag line. When you're depressed like me everything is stressful. Then your life becomes 1 room that you live in most of your life. Acceptance that I may never get any better. I developed an eff it attitude sometimes I get a lot done and feel great and sometimes I can't get out of bed to bathe or eat. Just riding the waves.

Hit the nail on the head about anxiety. Once I figured out that connection, I came up with a mind hack that keeps me from procrastinating. I mentally let go so that there's no anxiety and fall into action, just focusing on keeping my mind clear and letting my body complete the task.

after all, it's just a dealine, not a bear attack. Man, I need to get that pinned up on my notice board. after I've checked my e-mails, made myself a cup of coffee, ooo perhaps I should have my lunch now insted, and while I do that I can check up on the latest political nonsense.

I work at 7 11 in Chicago and before placing the hotdogs on the rollers I'll first dump them down my shirt. I also like to drink the milk out of gallon since we worship milk and cows. Most of the food there I have rolled my body on it. Velly good velly bad velly good boy

As a Masterprocraster since, I don't know, ever? I would like to add this:
Often I found myself procrastinate because I think: when I am done with this task, the next one is just around the corner. This cycle won't end. So screw that. I wanna have fun now!

The fact I was procrastinating before watching this video terrified me.
I have to do a lot of task today but unsurprisingly - ignore them all, the reason is uncleared like my mind and thoughts - still confused what i am gonna do next.

I had always loved TED, but theses are not what I used to love. I feel like they are forcefully making the videos. Just romming around the think without actual fact or solution to the problem. Common guys you can do a bit better.

I do it because it works. if it wouldn't work, i probably wouldn't do it.
Like an essay in school, why should i spend days on it and get the same score that i get when i do it in the last few hours on hyper focus.

Great video! I'm constantly battling against procastrination, and for me, dividing into smaller tasks and having a break each hour or so helps me in the long run a lot.
It's not easy task, but we can do it!
