Seventeenth-century Danish geologist Nicolas Steno earned his chops at a young age, studying cadavers and drawing anatomic connections between species. Steno made outsized contributions to the field of geology, influencing Charles Lyell, James Hutton and Charles Darwin. Addison Anderson recounts Steno's little-known legacy and lauds his insistence on empiricism over blind theory. Lesson by Addison Anderson

He refutes Descartes' idea that only humans had a pineal gland, proving it wasn't the seat of the soul.
That doesn't really follow unless you presuppose that humans are necessarily the only animal that has a soul. It can be alternatively used as proof that, you know, humans aren't the only animals with a soul.

The fact that animals don't have a pineal gland does not prove that it's not the seat of the soul though.
And there is lots of evidence that sediment strata don't work like that. Even lab experiments show that it does not sediment by age but by size and composition also.

no it just means he discovered Gods order to things he just didn't glorify God. forgotten that different densities at different layers and floating etc affect what level something would be at mud is not water. density of after changes with depth.

It must be known that most geologists don't believe in strict uniformitarianism anymore. For example, most of the sedimentary layers we find today were most likely made by catastrophic processes than uniform ones.
