There is much bad information about Columbus floating around. He DID set foot in America. although not the part we now call the USA. He DID discover America if you define discover as being the first to bring wide spread knowledge of a fact to other. The Vikings set foot on America but nothing came of it since they didn't bother to TELL anyone and it was soon forgotten (the same goes for the inhabitants of America. they didn't TELL the part of the world that keeps written history so it didn't matter. If you discovered an island and spent the rest of your life on the island but didn't tell anyone. it can hardly be said that you discovered it. The number of EDUCATED people who thought the world was flat was very tiny. IN 1492 it was general knowledge that the world was round. Columbus was a VERY moral man relatively speaking. FAR more moral than the King and Queen of Spain. Columbus hated the way some of his men treated the natives. He wasn't the best leader of men. But he tried to STOP the abuse. Many of the bad things we know about Columbus were actually lies written about him by his chief political rival of the time. It's as though everything you knew about Reagan you got from a book written by Walter Mondale.

Your history report is rubbish. Columbus did discover the American continents for Europe at that time, and didn't wipe out 90% of the natives.
He strived to keep the natives safe, as he agreed with Queen Isabella on that.
Whenever Columbus left camp to further explore, the Spaniards abused the natives, even warring against them. During his entire voyages he was resented because of being a non-Spanish over the Spanish. He never recieved the riches promised by king Ferdinand and died in poverty. Nor did king Ferdinand award Colombus the governorship promised. Colombus ruined his health from the necessity of so tremendously neglecting sleep. He did have intentions of taking advantage of every opportunity to secure all gold and other treasures he could discover in the Caribean area tho.

In Croatia they celebrate genocide over Serbs in WW2 and in 1995. That genocide is named Oluja (or The Storm) and is biggest amty Serb military plan since 1945. Republika Srpska Krajina (Place with a lot of Serbs) 742 soldiers killed,
at least 1, 196 civilians killed,
200, 000 [4] -250, 000 refugees (Serbian sources)
Autonomous Province of Western Bosnia (19931995) 30, 000 refugees
They are demending from Us to say sorry for all they did. To say Sorry for leting you kill civilians and trow them in River Sava, so they get in Danube and get to the Capital City

The simple format of the video that in less than 6 minutes claims to put on trial a polyhedric historical figure like Columbus seems to be a little too much superficial and justicialist fashion soaked. In order to have a clearer focus and informations/historical analysis about the topic i would suggest to read at least the book of the historian C. Bucher Christopher Columbus. Let's try to not run toward any verdict (if it worths the attempt) if we don't have a plain understanding of the facts.

I agree with the prosecutor. Culture changes, along with public standards on things and people from long ago. Columbuss lawyer is wrong. If I were the jury, (which the description says I am) I would ask the lawyer if celebrating segregation or slavery is a good idea, cuz you CAN compare a historical thing with todays standards.

There's a difference between deciding what the traditions mean and completely blacklisting certain traditions because they can mean a certain thing. You can celebrate the positive connotations of a person in history without tearing down their statue and renaming their holiday.

Meh its all history, learn from it and move on. Nobody's perfect, even now they're are people more worst than him. So what's the use of having a trial for a man who is long dead? Your just wasting time thinking about, just be better and move on so history will not repeat itself.

Funny how people bash on Columbus judging him by 21th century morals and praise natives who practiced canibalism and human sacrificies.
Ill always respect my ancestors no matter their good or bad actions. No statue is worth taking down.

Its less rhat Columbus understood that the world was round when no one else did and more that he wasnt as good at geometry as he thought he was and massively underestimated the circumference of the earth.

This completely ignores the fact that Columbus Day isn't meant to represent the evils of Christopher Columbus, but the birth of one of the most transformative countries in the history of the world.
