Talking about self awareness is frustrating. For some reason we believe that the human example of consciousness is the end-all, and we look for it in other species. And if they don't do it like we do, then they aren't self conscious. This is nothing short of pretentious and egregious. If anything is clear about animals such as dogs, they See and interact with the world way differently than we do. So it's not fair to say a dog is not self aware because it doesn't care about a dot on its forehead while looking at a mirror. Dogs are self aware and they're intelligent, even if they don't see the world like we do.

You have failed to properly model the spiraling, churning, of the dog's nasal cavity with your cartoon. This is a big deal.
