View original lesson: How can animation convey complex, intangible concepts? A visual metaphor, or an idea represented through imagery, can take an idea as massive as Big Data and tie it to the familiar depiction of a growing tree. TED-Ed animators explain how to make an abstract idea come alive visually

I think the tree analogy for big data is very misleading. The amount of data we are collecting grows exponentially and very rapidly. This is not well-explained with the growth of a single tree and its leaves. The key questions for these visualizations is: do they they help the audience understand something easier? Or: do they help people remember the key concepts? However, the way you explain it it is more some visual thing to make the video look cool and artistic.

I think the way the example was worded (excerpt about island networks) was easier to understand before the graphical illustration. At least, that's not the imagery I had in mind when I read it. Part of the challenge of conveying complex ideas is putting them in imagery the listener can relate to.

This lesson is really weak. All the design choices were pretty much unjustified, except for catching the attention of viewers. as opposed to actually being effective in communicating complex ideas.

Just what I needed to help develop this story I'm creating. I cab often create various characters in random situations but thinking of ideas for the world in which they exist slips me at times

It is easy for me. Why? Because I. Look for love and freedom and owing to it at least for me, it is work of art, pure autopoiesis.
