Some historians dispute the claim that Sparta was this superior warrior culture. After the loss of Thermopylae, Sparta hired a famous poet by the name of Simonides to carry out a massive PR campaign after the 300 spartans nearly lost the war to the Persians. The allied greek city states were less than inspired originally, but thanks to Simonides framing the Spartans as this crazy warrior culture, they became seen as they are today. Prior to that, they were seen as weak and ineffective, especially due to the battle at Thermopylae.

It's funny how man comes up with harsh, brutish methods for a seemingly worthy cause. The Athenians never had to do all of these but were as powerful or more than Sparta & have outlived them. Even in hindsight, there is nothing admirable about the Spartan way. Great video BTW

So which was it? Don't just quote from ancient sources, all of them are incredibly biased. The Spartans hated the rest of the Greeks, and the Greeks hated Sparta
