Humans are creatures of rhythm and repetition. From our breath to our gait: rhythm is central to our experience, and often brings us pleasure. We can find pleasure in the rhythm of a song, or even the rows of an orchard. Of course, too much repetition can also backfire. David Silverstein describes what poetic repetition is and why it works. As I hear him talk
Pondering on the poem I have wrote
Front rhyme is the key I thought
With Eminem's O and E I wrote
Lose has an O and E it struck
Not going to be a good poem but pops
Quickly pens down my thoughts
But my brain couldn't keep up with the rhythm and stops.

God, I love TED-Ed.

Listen to Kool G Rap and Saigon in The Letter P or Kool G Rap and MF DOOM on Assassination Day if you want pleasure from poetic pattern in rap form.
