Learn more about TED's student voice initiative here: The human voice is capable of incredible variety and range. As we age, our bodies undergo two major changes which explore that range. So how exactly does our voice box work, and what causes these shifts in speech? Shaylin A. Schundler describes how and why our voices change when we get older. Lesson by Shaylin A. This voice doesn't explain the phenomenon really well.
Timestamp 2: 03 -
Rapid and small vibrations create high-pitched, quiet tones while slow, large vibrations produce deep rumbles.
Yes, but if you actually watch your vocal folds live(or in youtube, you'll barely be able to notice this phenomena, that is the frequency, rapidity of the vibrations.
What'll you notice is your vocal folds become
1. thinner & they lengthen (get stretched) to make the voice sound high pitching and
2. thicker & shorter to make the voice sound sound low pitching(deeper and manly.
Think of this like a guitar.
When a thin string is plucked, it vibrates and produces a high pitched tone.
When a thicker string is plucked, it sounds much deeper when it vibrates.
That's kind of what happens to your voice.
Thickness and thinness of string matters more than the rapidity of vibrations of the string.
That involuntary thickness and stretching is what changes the vibration's course, which is not mentioned in the video.

I'm 16 and my voice still sounds like a girl lol. I always talked in high pitch since childhood. I used to kill Let It Go's high note, I still can today but it would leave my throat soar.

Does the size of a man's Adam's Apple say something about his voice? Like, if it's larger would his voice be deeper? Higher? Or is there no correlation? I'm curious now.
