Honestly I think your explanation is BS. The image that forms at the back of the eye doesn't depend on the shape of the pupil opening, it is brought into focus by curved shape of the lens, that's the reason the pupil doesn't need to be a single point, so that it doesn't need to be a pinhole camera which is limited severely by the brightness of the image it produces - the only thing that matters is the area of the pupil for how much light it lets through. For instance my cats have plenty good peripheral vision even with slit irises and they are perfectly good at seeing things right up close as well as far in the distance. My cat Bullet likes to watch my computer screen from 10 feet away but he also likes to look at it from 6 inches away so he's definitely neither farsighted nor nearsighted. I think the REASON there is such a variety of shapes and methods of action of irises is. because it just doesn't matter. The mongoose definitely proves that point too. It's a great predator, it can kill fast and dangerous snakes. If horizontal irises were herbivore irises, there's no way it would have been left with that, it would have been optimized to something else like cat's eyes. I think it's just luck what shape evolution shapes the irises into, that there is no real reason for it to be one thing or another and you're trying to find a pattern where none exists.

Can you or would you do a video on how preditory birds such as an eagle can see a mouse at a mile away, and at at distents so close it would be able to eat it clearly. I can only assume that birds of prey have a sort of binocular vision. Which they can control as we do when view something far away to something farthure away. But are mandated to have to choose the particular lens measure in degree of power such as a 10mm to the use of a 20 mm. Birds of prey seem to have not only binocular visison but the ability to alter the lens.

I'm so glad this wound up going into detail about a couple other pupil types, after mentioning them at the start.
