In fact, there was a real person behind rumors of Preston John.
In the first part of 12 century, an ambitious King comes to power in divided Kingdom of Georgia. David the fourth of Bagrationi dynasty soon reunited his country and by his genius and reforms turned it into a big christian power, subjecting everyone around his realm. David ruled from 1089 until his death in 1125.
Eventually, by Georgians and nearby sultans and muslims rulers, David was referred as King of Kings and sword of Messiah.
On year 1121, A great Seljuk army as assembled with widely known general Ilghazi. Armys consisted troops of seljuks, arabian king and numerous amiras that answered call of caliph. Total number of this coalition army went up to 300k-400k. Ilghazi was ordered to take Crusaders state of Antioch, but first he needed to protect his back. Although Georgians were orthodox christians, they could answer the call of catholic fellas and attack muslims from behind, so Ilghazi decided to strick first. On August 12 he invaded Georgia, which proofed to be his fatal mistake. By that time Georgia was might equal or greater to any of European powers. King David called for arms and gathered his elite army of 35k knights. On the field of Didgori christians and muslim finally clashed in a dreadful fight which resulted in devastating defeat of muslims. Only about several hundreds of original 400k men survived. Ilghzi himself hardly managed to flee the battlefield.
This great victory saved christians positions and let crusader states survive for several more decades.

3: 32 Ethiopia had converted to Christianity in the 4th century. You learn something new every day, haha. I suppose that might be due to the Roman empire, which was at its end at the time.

Today: Don't believe everything you read on internet!
Old times: Don't believe everything you read!
So, basically, fake news is not a new thing!
