In 1958, after receiving a letter describing the deaths of songbirds due to the pesticide known as DDT, Rachel Carson began an investigation into the misuse of chemicals and their toll on nature. In 1962, she published her findings in Silent Spring, which immediately drew both applause and impassioned dissent. How did this biologist and writer ignite such controversy? Mark Lytle investigates. This video is way too optimistic.
DDT kills insects that spread malaria and other diseases and was widely used in WW2, which saved a lot of lives. DDT was used in The US, Tibet, Africa, Philippines and other countries which was followed by en extreme decrease of death caused by malaria. Basically, DDT saved the US from Malaria. The ban on DDT resulted millions of deaths in Africa, mainly children. Rachel Carson is a great influence for ecology, but the story has a dark side too.

What about the millions of people that died from malaria as a result of the mosquitoes that were not killed by ddt? Also, DDT doesnt cause the range of diseases Carson claimed it did in humans, just a relatively mild lung cancer, which was trivial compared to the aforementioned deaths from malaria.

Yeah its destroyed the ecosystem in Palos Verdes California, from the dumping tons of it off the coast here. You could see if from google earth, the satellites show the Barrales in the ocean. The movie men at work with Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez think is a play off what happened!

bid industries are always damaging our Planet, for them the only thing that counts is money. Today, a scientist that is doing great work for nature and humanity, is Dr. Vandana Shiva, I guess many of you know her or heard of her, she is brilliant and a fighter for humanity.

It's a shame that greed can ruin the reputation of such an amazing thing as chemistry.
It's not a creation of human. It's something we discovered. It was at the 'dawn' of all creation.
The force within it is the creator of all that is. I shall not name it.

conspiracy theory: the government read her book and fed her food connected to pesticides (like in her book) trying to prove her wrong. She ended up getting cancer and dying instead. government wins either way.

I actually read a small part of her book silent spring in my school as a project. It scared me more than anything because it made me realize how close we were to killing hundreds if not thousands of people.

Now its Neonicotinoids (a form of pesticide) wiping out Honey Bees and other non pest species of Insects. Countries all over the world need to ban that stuff.

But what is chemical industry exactly?
What is the difference between industry and chemical industry?
Can anyone answer, please?

reply

Not potatoes but cheese will take over the world and universe. Remember Cheese is the most important and tasty meal in the universe
