Explore ridiculous ancient theories of bird migration and discover how scientists finally solved one of the field's oldest mysteries. In 1822, Count von Bothmer shot down a stork in Germany. However, the bird had already been impaled by a yard-long wooden spear. The stork had been speared in Africa and then flew over 2, 500 km. This astonishing flight proved to be an essential clue in a mystery that had plagued scientists for centuries: the seasonal disappearance of birds. Lucy Cooke digs into the discovery of bird migration. Western: European continent is densely populated so many animals are vulnerable from humans threats, as an example from that video when in Germany, where humans destroyed almost all life stocks birds died from mans weapon, as we should treat nature in good way not in notorious

There are multiple reasons as to how birds return to the exact spot every year. Some of them are pretty easy to believe, while others is pretty amazing.
1. Birds can memorize various landmarks along their route and follow them to their nesting spot.
2. Birds have tiny concentrations of iron in their inner ear which react with the Earth's magnetic field.
3. Birds can memorize the movement of the sun and the stars.
4. Chemical reactions between a bird's brain and nose allow it to sense which way is the north.
5. Birds can use certain smells to their advantage in order to create an olfactory map of the world, allowing them to follow trails of familiar smells.

Fun fact: Birds fly in a V-formation no matter how bug the flock is due to aerodynamics, as the leader bird loses the air, the 3 remaining back take and dissipate it like in a game of NIM

Nice video! however it mentions the first proof of migration 00: 40 by saying that from middle of Africa to North of Germany is over 2500Km, but it is NOT! From south of Italy to North of Germany is about 2500Km so it would easily be more than double of that. Cheers

Wow. To be so motivated and to know your goal so clearly to keep flying after being pierced with a spear. Just, wow. To cover your eggs for months even in the coldest weathers even in the wildest storms just to protect them. Birds are strong beasts covered in feather.

But is it as cool as pooping candy?
That is a weird weird question
Pls make a video on the current theories about bird migration. The magnetic field point seems particularly interesting!

Those beautiful wings taking the birds over the seas, mountains and valleys, This beautiful animation is priceless! Am I the only one who feels like crying after seeing this beautiful animation?

Out of all the theories that were proposed by the researchers, my favourite one will be first one. It's so outlandish and cool at the same time. It just seems like it belongs to fiction.

People said that neil arm strong are the first person to step on the moon, little did they know that fly has been doing that for hundred of years regularly and low cost efficient

Hopefully the man who shot that stork did not go home only to be met by a lion or hippo and died defenseless, with starving children and a bereived family.
