Considering we have used concrete to cover three quarters of the landmass of earth making our planet the galaxy's worst Coruscant cosplayer. Maybe it's time we stopped and looked into conservation of nature and less humans.
I've been trying to work out the logistics of a human licence. You wanna have a kid you have to get a licence, government is happy they get a one time payment of like 120 quid (per child) and the community improves as people with no right to raise a child won't have the right anymore. Crime goes down (because everyone is raised properly to a licence retaining standard, jobs and available housing go up. Still haven't worked out what the punishment would be for revoking the licence, what happens if its the child that is defective (not in that way I mean deviant; criminal) or how to not sound like a villain from George Orwell novel.

for every ton of concrete theirs a ton of co2
For a chemist that feels soo wrong; for every mol of CaO (56, 08 g/mol) made from CaCO3 (100, 09 g/mol) their will be a mol of CO2 (44, 01 g/mol) released. But their statement ist that for every ton of CONCRETE their is a ton of CO2 and they say in their Video that the production process releases CO2 as well. [ Nearly 900 kg of CO2 are emitted for every 1000 kg of Portland cement produced. (Source Wikipedia)]. For an informational Video this rounding is totally fine.

Hi TED-Ed! Great video, I enjoyed it a lot as always, including the message of the video. But there is a mistake at 3: 07 where it is said that a ton of CO2 is produced per CaO. Since the molecular weight of CaO is 56 g/mol and the molecular weight of CO2 is 44 g/mol, the ratio would actually be an approximate 786 kg of CO2 per ton of CaO. Maybe the ratio was concluded counting other manufacturing factors, but if it was determined by chemistry alone, then I think it is wrong.

Water, gravel, sand. Only the cement, master of all three elements could bind them. Everything changed when climate change attacked. But when the world needed it most. it vanished. A few years passed and scientists discovered a new concrete, a building material named clean concrete. And although its carbon capture skills are great, it has a lot of development to go through before its ready to save anyone. But scientists believe, it can save the world.

Climate models are all wrong. Volcanoes give off way more Carbon Dioxide emissions than mankind ever can or will. No one factors in the Volcanic eruptions. They say it's automobiles, factories, planes, and now concrete. Mt Etna has been spewing incalculable amounts of Carbon Dioxide into the sky for all the last week of February. The greatest Eruptions of the world's known history far outweigh anything concrete has ever done.

TED-ED really making a lot videos that relate to climate change. I like it, your increasing the awareness about climate change, but it also makes me a bit hopeless about the future because even after knowing all this, it feels like we're just going towards climate change, rather then going against climate change. Hopefully something can change. After all hope is what's needed.

I used to work for a concrete testing laboratory, and the toughest sample of concrete we ever received was some old Roman concrete. If I recall correctly, the most likely reason was that they built without reinforcement, and anything that wasn't tough as old boots has collapsed in the last couple of millenia, so we've only got the best of the best still standing.

Hey there Ted Ed - you could ve also added that the fact that trees intake CO2 and give out oxygen is the only major reason why the global warming is increasing at such a slow pace compared to what actually could ve happened if there were no trees, so this is like also one of the mere reasons to Save tress!

Other channel videos
