I think there's a flaw in your solution. If you bet 24 on round 2, Gordon can win by betting also 24, not 25, which makes the gem standings 75-75 going into the silver round. I think what you should do is betting 25 on round 2, so that if Gordon let you wins round 2, the gem standings will be 50-48 as Gordon has to bet 51 on round 3, giving you guaranteed win as well (betting 17 on the first 2 rounds, then 16 on the rest giving you guaranteed win, and if you lost in any of the rounds which you bet 17, you just bet 17 in one of the even rounds where tie= Gordon win. If Gordon also bids 25 in round 2, the gem standings will be 75-74 going into silver round, which is concluded to be our guaranteed win. Correct me if I'm wrong and thanks for reading!

I've been sitting here trying to figure this one out for an hour now and eventually i came to the conclusion its impossible. I then watch the answer and suddenly there is a new rule that you did'nt mention.
- You do not lose any gems if you lose the auktion.
As an afterthought its pretty obvious because that is how auktions work but i did'nt make that assumption since the first bet was 24-0.

The thing is you need 3 of one type to use them at all. Meaning that, since there are only 3 golds and you already got one, the gold round is already over. It is absolutely nonsensical for Gordon or you to waste bids on hexagons that you can't even use, so both of you should bet 0.
At which point, you're left with a gem disatvantage on silver hexagons only and Gordon seems to win )
