Between the years 950 AD to 1290 AD, on the Northern border of South Africa, traversing the conference of the Shashi Limpopo Valley, which today divides Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa, existed an ancient African Kingdom, called Mapungubwe. From the Iron Age to present day this unique one-hour film explores the history and tells the story of this remarkable city. Governed from an impenetrable hilltop, Mapungubwe became the business centre for all of Africas trade which, by this period, had become well integrated into the world economy and thrived on trade with the East Indian Trade Route attracting traders from as far afield as Persia, Arabia, India and China. Mapungubwe was inhabited by successive groups of people for this 300 year period until it was mysteriously evacuated. No one knows for sure why, but in 1290 Mapungubwes inhabitants left taking with them the memories and stories of Mapungubwes' early history. In this film archaeologists and historians take us on a journey through a thousand years of untold African history revealing the controversial discovery of this ancient site and its golden artifacts

They try to hide the Venda History but the culture is being shown at the background. This guy got it wrong in Tshivenda it means Mountain of the jackkals or stones of the jackals. tswanas are Vendas because of the bakwena, which makes tswana sound like venda. Vendas built the first city of Southern africa. stop saying this people, wats wrong by saying Vendas built this. We built the three 1st kingdoms of Southern africa named as Mapungubwe, zimbabwe and Thulamela. all this are Venda words. Vendas still have the same structure of kingdoms in the morden Venda kings places. only vendas build like this. even today venda is the learning curve of all Southern africas society because they the only un colonized people. People are building there villages out of vendas influences. our villages look like surbubs without roads. Vendas are called the last defence of Africa example Mugabe, Julius Malema, Joshau Maponga and Ramaphosa are Vendas. Vendas defeated white people and they named our king Makhado the lion of the NORTH

The history is great indeed. However what bothers me as a child of the soil is that, our ancestor's resting places are not respected. Anything that is buried with anybody be it a King, Queen, Chief or commoner in the name of culture and tradition should remain where it was intentionally placed. No one is digging the European graves for historical purposes or to prove their knowledge, but it seems like Afrika is the only place where people who feel entitled to do as they please do what they feel with the land of our forefathers. if they love history why don't they go their places of origin and dig their own please their sacred things, that's if they have and stop disturbing the the culture of this land.

African citizens are normally not patriotic to their country as they always certainly in most cases contribute to the fall of a good leadership regime on the African Continent and I know that for sure, this is a very bad situation on the African Continent the leaders of Africa must come together and make a platform in AU or even smaller African blocks like ECOWAS etc to address this appalling but lethal issue, and if these steps are fully accomplished definitely it will increase the love of Africa and the African Continent in the hearts of Africans, which will in turn promote unity and harmony among African people, their leaders and all the regions of Africa.

So tired of white people. You dont know our history. No white people even existed at when MAPUGUMBWE was alive and thriving and he said a race debate on if white was there first? This is why white people are no longer allowed to teach anything. All white historians are liars, they lie and spread white supremacy agendas. White skin can be traced through the OCA2 Gene in our genetics, white people didnt exist back then! There is no question on who the first people were, just ask the SUN!

And to be told by white folk in South Africa that they, who came in 1652, came before black folks, who were here LITERALLY 500 hundreds of years before and traded with the Indians and chinese before they did. There's literally monuments dating back before colonialism made by the Bantu and Khoi during our periods of inter mingling, and they still hide from this fact, claiming this to be false. It's crazy.

Another Black civilization annihilated and pilfered by Europeans in their quest to erase the Black skin around the globe. The MOST HIGH will not allow Satan to erase his children even though they sinned against HIM, that's HIS grace for HIS people. The Europeans (Satan) may have power on Earth, but that is not eternal. The MOST HIGH's children will rightfully re-inherit our planet once again.

there a clip at 30: 07, talking about the Queen of Sheba but showing a european white woman on the African throne. This is part of the white washing of history. SHEBA is in YEMEN and all ancient depictions of the Queen of Sheba is a BLACK WOMAN. Sheba was an exentsion of the AXUM kingdom, this were the original BLACK arabs. The uncorrected whitewashing is disgusting!

13: 06 why does he keep incessantly saying chief? The man he's describing is a KING. Literally a king. He rules over a KINGDOM. He has an army, nobles, commoners, trade, currency, etc. He is literally a king in every right. It is agonizing to see so many people blindly refer to these people as chiefs just because they are African.

9: 56 tells you a perfect story of capitalism and how it was not just something that's indicative of america. This is the perfect story of the struggle to control the land of Africa and it's bountiful resources while cutting off and exploiting the people who are indigenous to that land.

Sad that places like mapungubwe doesn't have indigenous living there anymore. its also sad that people took and examined the things from there. In my opinion I think they should have left the stuff there. but stillll it is nice that we can visit THE GREAT MAPUNGUBWE

It makes me angry that in this entire documentary, there is no trace of truth but it will be believed because it comes from several white men mouths who know nothing about today's blacks- imagine those who passed. No wonder why spirits are angry.
reply

Imagine being dug up by a strange man and the strange man continues to pass his opinions on how you used to live and who you were. The Most High forbid I wouldn't want that to happen to me. May the disrespected souls of our ancestors rest in peace.

They just can't hide their absolute fascination with black women's breast. Our history is best told by our people. Why spend so much to tell lies. It is better just to leave this things alone than to taint and shadow them with lies!
reply

Why putting zimbabwe history in South African history because we all know, they say we not related what's up stop doing it if you are not ready cz it's more than just words people need to be ready for this
Not the right time

Many African countries are reported to be dangerous for travellers, but I hope to visit one day. What countries are recommended? I'd love to visit Ghana and Senegal and other Western nations.
reply

I wonder why we learned about the History of the Zulu tribe here in Limpopo schools and not about our own history of Mapungubwe which is far more interesting than the rest.
reply

Not one African was viewed talking about his/her past
Only white men and women talking about Africa. It just perpetually continues to show that we are suppressed
