The Minotaur Myth: Origins Of A Beast The Minotaur's Island Timeline

The mysterious island of Crete has always loomed large in imagination, as the home of the Minotaur -- that monstrous creature, half-man half-bull -- imprisoned in Daedalus' labyrinth. Before Crete collapsed in fire and violence, it gave birth to Europe's first civilisation nearly 5, 000 years ago, and boasted an advanced, prosperous Mediterranean civilisation with hinged doors, flush toilets, and magnificent palaces

In my Book The Direction of Man I present a theory of externalization that explains how civilization is developed and the direction we are headed. In short we will develop robots that are identical to humans in every way minus the cells; they will be totally mechanical similar to Dada on Star Trek. It will be these robots that can function the same as man to be visiting other worlds and doing everything man could do without the worry for food, climate, concern of radiation etc. etc. The robots will be able to fix themselves.

Hmmm. The Egyptian link is new and would make sense. The Apis bull was one of the earliest Egyptian gods and held power over fertility, harmony, balance and eternity, not to mention was closely associated to the goddess Hathor and Ptah (crafter god. Bulls were a big thing in Minoan culture. Theres also a theory that the two goddesses were the early incarnations of Demeter and Persephone, linked to Poseidon and possibly Egyptian influence through the bull cult turned Ptah into Hades (my own theory.

I believe minotaur's were one of many diverse real biological creations made by visitors in an effort to create workers. I also believe the giants were also created to do manual labor and when it all got out of hand the visitors wiped as many out as they could. The giants appetites were so big they began to cannibalize the other worker creations and that posed a serious problem for the visitors.

Very good documentary on Minoan culture. But was the minotaur mentioned? Nothing of Daedalus, Icarus or Theseus? I though from the title it might touch on the origin of these stories. I take it we can at least assume that Mycenae was paying tribute to the Minoans. It may not have been the human sacrifices of the legend, but the Greeks must have some reason to make the Minoans the villains.

There are so many parallels between Minoans and Japanese of our times.
Disaster prone Island, Destructions caused frequently, Technological advancement as compared to others of the time, Good relations with Superpowers (Japan with US and Minoans with Egypt, Strong healthy people (Japanese today are healthy, Minoans then were muscular.

All these mythical figures from the mists of time and not one mention of Babeinosta. Undoubtedly the most exquisitly beautiful and sublime creature to roam any of the islands in their entire history.
Maybe because she was also presenting the show was why she wasnt mentioned.

What a treasure these Ancient History videos are. Ive wanted to study this stuff and Bethany makes History very entertaining and keeps your interest with her obvious passion for the subject. They do make you yearn for that beautiful Mediterranean sun though.

I'm disappointed in how this video was labeled. It barely mentioned the Minotaur at all. It was simply about the Minoans in general. But I could literally sit and watch/listen to Bettany Hughes talk about anything for hours so it wasn't a waste of time.

Shame the other viewers are so caught up in their high school hormones that no one could even leave a decent review about whether the documentary was worth watching, or anything interesting about the content
Too dumb to find PornHub?

Palace of King Minoas was the labyrinth, and he, was the MINOtaur, king Minoas was a very strong man that scared people with his look and character, and the palace was so massive it looked like a maze, hence the myth was created.

Wait! What? There was a Minoan goddess in charge of ensuring the corn grew? I thought corn was only native to the Americas or no? Could this be similar or the same as a corn Kachina?

The creations of the watchers and nephilim creating hybrids and crossing genetics as in the days of Noah the reason for the deluge, what today is known as mythology was once very real.

One of those early palaces was clearly built with megalithic architecture and techniques, unknown to either the Minoans OR their contempraries in Egypt or elsewhere.

The absence of fortification walls does not mean a peace loving civilization. The city of Sparta, too, had no surrounding fortification wall.
