13 Bizarre Pirate Traditions Most People Don't Know About

Pirates have a reputation--admittedly earned--for being ruthless, bloodthirsty killers. Life on the high seas demanded so much of those willing to brave it that it became customary for new pirates to develop an honorable accord. Pirates had a surprisingly complex culture, and whats crazier to us is that movies have barely scratched the surface of their traditions

Can I ask why in the part about Julius Caesar it was said that he was not the right one? It was my understanding that he WAS the right one and he mocked them and even told them to shut up when they were too loud. When they let him go for ransom, he unleashed a hunting party to find the pirates, found them, and killed them. Can anybody clafrify?

Remember one day I went to Barnes and Noble to get another copy of the first WeirdNJ compilation book. I had my buddy waiting outside and as I grabbed what I went for, I also happened to grab another as a ruse. I tuck the WNJ and realize as I'm leaving that the decoy I put back was actually book on PIRATES

Ok. WHY do Pyrates cry ONLY when they are Alone?
Because they have PRIVET-TEARS!
WHY do so many Pyrates sport LARGE BEARDS?
Because they LOVE COARSE-HAIRS!
HOW MUCH did it cost for the disabled PYRATE for his NEW HOOK and PEG?
Only and ARM and a LEG! LOL: D

They didn't spend all their time at sea, just when they ran out of cash. In a time when the word 'freedom' was a trope, Piracy was a reasonable alternative. Robbing from the Robber Barons. Don't s'pose the Aztecs enjoyed the Spanish plundering their gold.

General seafarer superstition: a woman's bare breasts were thought to calm angry waters (hence half naked ladies featuring on figureheads so often. Probably related to the phrase calm your tits! but I am too lazy to research that.

You literally snagged half of these from Facts Verse. A few of them almost verbatim. Chill out with your shit and find some stuff that maybe wasn't obviously said the same way a year before this with millions more views.

Another fun fact about piracy: Pirates code was actually a legit set of rules pirates went by. So for Barabossa to say that they were more like guidelines the actual rules in POC was in fact a false statement.

Do you have two announcers? Some videos sound a pitch or higher.
Awesome though. We love weird history! I know a lot of cool stories from being in Maine. Maybe some history on Maine or New England?

Don't know about the part when you said about pirates not burring their Treasure though. most pirates did buried their Treasure and left codes, signs, and symbols because most of them were freemasons

Well I always hope for gay history but I had no idea about actual gay marriage. I can see it, outcasts of society would seek out this life, it's a floating gay neighborhood!

I used to be a pirate back in the early 2000s. My ship was a glorious Acer laptop and my prize was every new song I could find on the choppy seas of Napster. Argh!

Its strange that this videos script is nearly identical, almost verbatim of the Facts Verse video with a date almost a year earlier. Who is ripping off who?

When no one was looking. Black Beard mounted forty cannons on his ship. He mounted 40 cannons. That's as many as four tens. And that's terrible.
