The Nightmarish Conditions in Industrial Meat-Packing Plants

In 1906, Upton Sinclair's novel The Jungle, about conditions in industrial meat packing plants, was published. It was a fictionalized account of what it was like in the meat packing industry, and how horrible working conditions were in meat packing plants. Sadly enough, much of what happened in this novel was absolutely true, and was taken from real experiences. This novel served as a wake up call that led to a series of improvements in the industry to make our food safer and to provide better conditions for factory workers.

Absolute, and utter, horsesh t. Upton Sinclair never set foot inside a meat packing plant, and never interviewed anyone who had. He even later admitted he made it all up for propaganda reasons. The new safety regulations _did, _ however, enable the larger producers to drive their smaller competitors out of business, who lacked the funding to comply.

I wouldn't take anything Upton Sinclaire said without a truckload of salt. The dude was an outright communist, willing to pen whatever libelous trash would get people in his ideological corner. Thankfully, it only resulted in the USDA focusing on the meat industry, but even that has resulted in some serious fed overreach.

This sounds like the Original guy. If you go way back. Sounds like him trying to get back into it. Sry Bud either it's weird history guy or Ms mojo. You just don't have the voice for this. I get bored listening to you. Not trying to be mean. Just what the ppl want is all.

I not only love meat! I also process my own. Buy in bulk and turn the waste into lard and dog kibble. I have some of the most spoiled dogs on the planet. I've told my wife over and over again, we should have gotten goldfishes.

Don't worry about the child workers not being old enough to grab a beer. No age restrictions on drinking in Packingtown! Remember how little Stanislas got drunk, passed out, and got eaten by a swarm of rats?

As an ex-Hobart Food Eqpt technician, not surprised. . I could add a few stories after working in many of the meat departments of the most popular store chains and meat factories. Nice video! Thank you for sharing.
