As draining as the 40 hour work week can be, we should really count our blessings for labor laws and HR departments. Picture yourself in the daily life of a serf: You work as much as your boss insists, you live in your bosss house, and you cant leave your bosss house - even if they decide to sell it to someone else. You will live there forever, and your children will, as well

A state of the art hole in the roof. You mean a chimney. F that u cant stop a chimney from getting a spark so it would have been pretty shit if it caught because I bet the materials used to make the houses werent bricks as we know them. And they used river mud for cerment which was also mega suss. Love this show. Reminds me of horrid histories from when I was a kid. But this is was more informative. If a kid watched this compared to HH they might actually do well in an exam. Xxx

I feel like we're quickly becoming serfdom & fiefdom again with these major corporations not paying us enough to live on and from what I read these major corporations are also buying up all the houses just to let them out to be rented welcome everybody to a new age of feudalism brought to you by capitalism

I have a feeling a serf work week was shorter than a regular work week. Some serfs heard about the new world and decided to take a long dangerous voyage. Sometimes they misjudged when the ship was to leave by about a couple of hundred years and got lost.
reply

Well, that was then.
Don't worry, the coming modern serfdom promises while we'll own nothing, we'll be happy this time. Just as long as we keep giving up our freedoms we'll get there in no time. Now put your mask on and don't ask questions!

The sad thing is not that rich ppl always win, but more that the ones in power can bend and shape the rules to benefit them. Historically the oppressed have always been people seen as less than. Don't get me started on forced Labor of Africans.
reply

At the end you glossed over something really pertinent. You make it seem like slavery started as a means to get around the lack of serfdom, but obviously slaves have been around since forever.

Everyone's hiring but no ones doing interviews type of arizona or they say they are hiring so people buy stuff and then they turn you away for not having a Vax card it's retarded anywhere you go

But we can't stress this enough, they just came with the land that was sold as if furniture, not as individuals. Just labor sold with the land mind you. Far more. People-ee.

Serfs were basically treated like temps ( temporary employees) in today's world. Except sadly it looks like serfs had more. Freedom's. Then temps in factories and warehouses.

Getting a little tired of programs like this make the USA the poster child of slavery, Brazil imported 10 times as many slaves and keep them into the 1880's.

At least they had a house, job, land, family, tons of holidays, and only 3% income tax. You have to have a 60k income today just to get a shithole apartment.
reply

How is this any different than the USA in 2020?
Police are the knights, judges and smaller politicians are the lords and the president is the king?

reply

So sad that people today think their lives are tough. Most people live more comfortable, easier lives, than the richest King could ever have dreamed of.

Sounds rather simular to what the WEF and the WEF-governments are trying to implement. They literally said it: You will own nothing and you will be happy.

What I learned from this is that medieval serfs, who were essentially property, were allowed more sick days per year than the average American citizen
reply

Wealthier classes always control much of the income and a higher, safer living standard. It does not matter what form of government is in place.

Being a Slave: Where is my worth?
Being a Serf: This is Slavery!
Being a min Wage Worker in the USA: Serfs got better pay!

Read Nikolai Gogol's Dead Souls. The whole book is about a man buying up lists of dead serfs, so that he can mortgage them for cash.

Being a resident of one of the wards in Chicago made living like a serf look like the lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.
reply

This is horrifying. It sounds like hell with absolutely no escape. Who do they think they are those damn lords. Geez.
