There was another aspect of foot binding that's really messed up. Somehow, folks got it into their heads that if done right, the folded feet reminded men of a woman's, um flower, and it was considered erotic. If your feet had this certainz look, it was made known when it came time to marry. I can't remember if it was delicately refered to, or shown to a potential husband. Japanese culture being what it is, probably not shown until they were married. Myself, after looking at hundreds of pictures, I never saw a foot that reminded me of a woman's privates, but I guess you can see anything if you want to bad enough.

It was not fashion, it was tradition. Children didnt do it themselves, mothers and aunts forced the foot into lotus shape. First most important was size, second shape. The smaller and better shaped lotus feet had the most desirable marriage prospects. The toe bones didnt sometimes break, they always broke.

And I thought I had Cinderella feet! Depending on the shoe, I can fit as small as size 5 (US) and no larger than a 7 (US. But I really need to know the name of the music from the start of the 93 year old survivors testimony through the story of pan yuno and the golden lotus. It's absolutely gorgeous!

The last one I saw when I was 6 or 7 years old of ages that a woman of sundry grocery s owners mother had a bind feet she walk like a duck, I was thinking why her feet in that shape, I dont understand and never asked only thinking how painful her was may be in her life, only now I understand why?

Strange & creepy that many women still hurt or mutilate themselves for fashion. In warm weather you can notice women with sores & or bruises (bandaids soaked with blood) around there ankles from high heeled shoes (or other footwear) similar to what bound feet Chinese women once wore.

Its not beautiful at all. Its disgusting The only reason it was beautiful was because it prevented wives from running away. Sure, some wives mightve been in decent marriages, but the best any one of those could hope for was mild pain for her entire life.

Im sorry, I know my ancestors did some pretty messed up things (we jumped the trail of tears and went on raiding the local community as payback, they hid in what is now Bristol Caverns) but this is torture to children! Dayum!

Imagine being made into a cripple on purpous. As a kid, you can not play with the other children. As a woman, you can't play with your kids or help out on your families farm. But hey you've got little feet, so that's fine. Good greif.

When I was a very small child, my dad would often take me across the bay into San Francisco's Chinatown for the day. There were still quite a few elderly ladies with bound feet, but I mostly just liked their pretty little shoes.

Dear God the horror that Chinese girls were made to endure because of some mans ideal of beauty. This standard of beauty was FORCED on them. Most of the time not their choice. Thank goodness its over!

I am not sure girls were doing this to themselves as the intro stated- they went along with it- after the initial procedure maybe they changed bandages. But this wasn't self inflicted or initiated.

Footbinding is actually not that kind of widespread, it depends. Neither my grandmother nor my great-grandmother had footbinding, probably because they were boss of family XD
