Hey Weird History,
I love your videos but there is a mistake in this one. Giorgio Vasari wasn't born until 1511. He also did work in the Salone dei Cinquecento/Hall of the Five Hundred (the room for which Micheangelo drew the Battle of Cascina) in the Palazzo Vecchio as a painter from 1555 to 1572. It's suppossed that Vasari either overpainted Leonardo's and Michelangelo's artworks or have let them been destroyed. Anyway, the commissioner was Piero Soderini, a Florentine statesman.

Yeah I just watched an episode of perry mason and they mentioned something about the gas chamber;
I have a very rudimentary understanding of how that punishment worked;
Can you please explain how a person is sentenced for this line of punishment,
And how it worked? ;
Not to mention when it was done away with?
Inquiring minds want to know?

Michelangelo walked away from maybe one thing in his entire life. Sometimes his commissioned works had to be put on hold bc of lack of payment, and maybe didnt get finished, but the man worked his ass off til 3 days before he died. in his 80s! Leonardo, on the other hand? He walked away from the majority of what he started. That man had some serious ADHD! Two brilliant geniuses and amazing artists for sure, but I definitely lean towards the great MICHELANGELO!

How about not censoring the art? This video talks about murder and abduction but a stone image of a penis and testicles by perhaps the greatest stone carver of all time has to be blocked. Who are you trying to save with that? Will our brains fry if we see it? Are we idiots that need to have information and images censored since it may have adverse effects on us? Violence all around but a picture of some lump of human flesh and people's heads explode.

It's weird but at the same time it's fascinating to know that is why their artwork is so realistic, and to open a body to see how joints and muscles work, that is truly amazing. And also learning the science of the human body at the same time, we are truly an extraordinary species.

We had one of those books showing the layers of the body through transparent pages. It was in the 1960s. The top page showed a body and as you turned each plastic ) page, the page beneath showed the next body layer. For a kid, it was very interesting to me.

these men were probably seen as properly mad in their day, where as now we have an appreciation for their investigative gusto haha. If it wasn't for insatiable human curiosity we would know nothing of our own bodies and of our environment!

Once dead, we are just a shell, and bodies should at times be used to help the living. Later in history, doctors were allowed to use the bodies of criminals to study. Grave robbing was still going on, though, because there was such a need.

The masters of antiquity are gone, and so is great art and music. Never again will the likes of these men walk the Earth. Lets hope that 500, 1000, or even 5000 years from now, their works will survive for future humankind to appreciate.

Im currently reading a book on this famous rivalry, its amazing that behaviour such as this would today be considered grotesque and criminal, but without it our world would have missed the opportunity for such amazing works!

I love how scandalized people are that artists and doctors used dead bodies to learn anatomy! I mean did you want them to cut open the living? After all modern doctors still use cadavers to learn.

I'm really facinated with Da Vinci's sketchbooks. The book with all the obscure faces and human inspired drawings. He really dove into his curiosity and learned so much.

Plot twist: Michelangelo first painted the skeleton, then painted muslces on top of it, then painted skin on top of that and then finally added clothes.

I took my daughter to the High Museum in Atlanta years ago to see the Michelangelo exhibit. It was amazing. Much more impressive than Da Vinci's. tbh.
