In 1956, the world watched as American actress Grace Kelly married Prince Rainier of Monaco. It was one of the first major media events surrounding a celebrity marriage, comparable only to the hype of Queen Elizabeth II's marriage to Prince Philip. But Grace Kelly's marriage had far deeper implications than just a man marrying a woman. But joining her wealthy family with the royal family of Monaco, she essentially insured the tiny principality's future prosperity. And one man was responsible for the whole affair

Damn did know that aristotle had a say in this. However, what was not mentioned was that Grace had to take a fertility test so as ensure monaco's heir and consequently, would not be annexed by france.
In addition, Queen Elizabeth did not go to that wedding since she thought there were too many celebrities that were attending the wedding. Also even her great great grandmother queen victoria think lowly of monaco that's why no british royal was ever married to them.
Grace kelly is said to have struggled after the wedding her in-laws didn't like her and she had little to no friends. She also had little in common with her husband that's why she threw herself to charity work and taking care of the children. Although Princess Caroline has said that they were more close to their nanny that their parents.
The constitution of monaco was changed again later on because rainier feared that albert would never settle. He made princess caroline eligible for the throne afaik. That's why out of Caroline's children her eldest was sorta prepared for the throne.
Tbh monaco is by far one of the well publicised royal/princely families in the world their messy divorces and scandals can be seen on the news. Heck someone even said that they're like reality stars of the royal world but i'd take that over protecting a child predator or a corrupt royal

Would I ever consider marrying a royal? Not just NO, but HELL NO. This whole thing smelled of the old dollar princess scheme. get impoverished aristocrats to marry wealthy American women for financial gain. And it seems that there was no love between Miss Kelly and Rainier. She wasn't happy in the life that was pushed on her by this whole thing, and you can see it in all the film and photos the paparazzi grabbed of her. especially during that wedding. She had no life of her own. She was wanted only for her money and her ability to produce children. It must have been a miserable existence for her.

Grace kelly shall always be the role model each american princess should learn from
The people of Monacco loved her so much, they mourned for months after her dead, she was known to be a great leader and helped the people of Monacco a lot
Unlike Grace, Meghan Markle is selfish and greedy, this is why she continues to fail at all her ventures and this is why the british hate her and she will go down in history as the worse D list american actress who married a prince and turned him into a dumb frog
She should had leant from Grace kelly

Seeing tons of comments saying that the men were terrible and entitled for doing what they did. Lmao really? She was a loose lady, and all she had to do is lay around and look pretty while a man took care of her. Yes. Sounds so awful to be catered to. If I was that dude I would have took a hard pass on her. Most men don't want a woman that's been plowed through by countless men. Just saying. She was lucky.

I was named for Grace Kelly and I always found her fascinating as a result (as well as my middle namesake, Diana) as a child I idealized them like Disney characters and as a teenager I was shocked and saddened to hear some of the more human elements of their lives. It wasn't until young adulthood that I eventually made peace with my namesakes and embraced them as flawed but complicated & lovely individuals

Whatever the reason they married, I believe there may have been some happiness in their manage. Ill never forget watching clips from Grace Kellys funeral on the news. Prince Ranger didnt look like a man just putting on a show of sadness. He looked broken. I remember thinking wow, maybe he actually loved her. Still sad she didnt get to do more films though. She was a talented actress.

When you have a lot of money, what you crave next is a thing called cache. Onassis got it with Jackie
. No small deal having your name right next door to the Kennedy name. Sure, Grace had millions but look how nice it is when hobnobbing with royalty. No one can say, Who do you think you are, the Queen?

reply

Yep, it was a totally commercial marriage. None of the European royals came for the wedding and only Diane came for Grace's funeral. They think of Monaco as a tiny principality rather than a country. But who cares? It was a beautiful fairy tale and we love it.

any chance we could get a follow up to this that details what kind of life she led as a forced royal? I mean. especially since it sounds like her whole thing was hey i have money so i can't help but wonder if she wielded any political influence.

I think she really loved her prince she was so beautiful she could have married anyone rich or poor. So she paid a dowry lots of countries do that. Even Americans that marry it all becomes United whats his is mine and hers is mine.

Grace and Rainier met in 1955 and then set up a regular correspondence which eventually turned to love. It had nothing to do with Onassis! He played a bigger part in their lives later but not in getting them together.

Im old. When I was young, my parents talked about this marriage like it was from a storybook. Its nice to hear another side, but I take it with a grain of salt. Im sure theres a middle ground between the two stories.

1776: Americans - down with royalty/aristocracy
Since 1776: Americans desperately selling off their daughters for a royal/aristocratic title
That being said Grace Kelly was indeed an American rose

I could never had married a prince for prestige, or money. Not very ambitious of me. I do believe that being a princess was very important to Grace Kelly. I hope her life was happy. God rest her soul.

Yes, the Grimaldi Curse got popularised by this marriage. but it was fecking created in the medieval times as a series of insanely terrible mental decisions for princely men and women.
reply

Come on everyone- she loved him- she was 26! She could have had any man- he had no looks but charm-she had all the looks and needed a break (spotlight on her became more reverential)

If I had to marry an ugly prune by the likes of Queen Elizabeth, I would have a prenuptial agreement that allowed for several mistresses, and access to much cash, lots and lots of cash.

Funny, if Price Renier married Marilyn Monroe, JFK will be fiathful with Jackilyn. and she will never meet Aristotle Onassis. then again, Lee Harvey Olswald is another factor.
reply

We know the late princess Grace Kelly is not happy when she married Prince Rainier, they have different culture, beliefs upbringing she was suppressed she has no freedom
reply

Most sensational marriages surrounded around grandeur is nothing but a sham! Marriage should be a simple affair not orchestrated, coerced or paid for 2 million dollar!
