What Hygiene Was Like On the Titanic

Like most things aboard the Titanic, hygienic practices and resources were dictated by class. First-class passengers traveling on the Titanic enjoyed some of the most luxurious bathing, dining, and recreational facilities to have ever been found at sea, while third-class passengers had to prove themselves clean just to get on board. Passengers on the Titanic spent their days and nights on the magnificent vessel, enjoying food in abundance while being tended to around every turn. In first and second class, Titanic passengers had access to public and private spaces with state-of-the-art amenities. Even in steerage, travelers didn't have much to complain about, with regular meals, electricity, and other comforts they may never have experienced before. The Titanic was tidy, shiny, and almost everything it was advertised to be - a true Queen of the Ocean

What Hygiene is like living in a tent trailer with no running water. AND pushing a wheelchair trying to take a shower at Planet Fitness, BUT the shower stalls are so small that I could not hold onto the chair and take a shower, too. So Four years later I still have no shower. Before I got the portable A/C 2 summers ago, I was buying ice to keep cool. I had to coat towels in ice and then I was comfortable. I went to sleep with ice coated towels thrown across me. I took a rag bath with ice covered cloths and kept mostly clean then. Now I don't even do that. When I itch I cover myself with anti itch cream. I wash my hair out on the porch.
Why? I was severely abused as a child and just can't seem to get away from cruel people that act the same way.
I am not allowed in the house of the man that this trailer is next to, parked in the driveway. He relishes at my stress. That is because he is a hoarder that was abused himself. BUT his brother has enough compassion to let this man, Tim, live in his house, even though he will not fix the broken plumbing or fridge or stove.
I was severely abused by a female that became bitter and vicious because she experienced that 1929 stock market crash/STEAL. Her father carried a gun and was extremely stressed out during that time. Those grandparents were very anti social. They never hugged me or offered to do anything for me. They moved far, far away. That man that was supposed to be my father decided working for the lord was more important than kids. The mother was just too stressed out from raising two kids by herself with no money for her own art classes she never got. She never got me as a daughter or child support from that man I only remember seeing once.
The video AGENDA Grinding Down America says that communists have been slowly taking over the world by breaking up families. Just in case you wonder why there are so many innocent people in prisons, they are in there for the oligarchs to make money from. And wars? they are there to make money from.

Back in the day, people bathed weekly. Today if I come across a homeless person or if I am in France I occasionally smell body odor. I have simply never had body odor, because I bathe when I get out of bed, and I bathe after each athletic event, and I bathe after each time I work on my yard. And If I have not done the last two, I do a quick spray off in the shower before I go to bed. I guess I have an intense sense of smell, but when I was a child I only noticed other kids smell when they farted. And I cannot eat eggs because they smell the SAME as a human fart!
In any case, I've been in Europe and people in the grocery stores in France especially are RIPE. I've never understood this; You need 60 seconds in the shower to remove any and all odor; I guess people were just used to body odor back then. Africans meet Americans or Europeans and say we smell like hospitals. I used to be a docent at the Stranahan House in Fort Lauderdale and this was one of the things I used to tell people taking the tour: There was NO air conditioning, so all windows were open. There were cattle shitting in yard, and people were visiting all the time, none of which had bathed in days; It simply STUNK and in our clean society today, if we went back to 1902, the year after it was built, we would be appalled by the simple stink

It's not in the Titanic only that third class passengers had to endure a thorough medical examination. They had to do it before boarding any ship, and upon landing in New York they had to do another one before being allowed to leave. Keep in mind that the third class was the one expected to have less medical care and health, and American Authorities certainly did not wanted a mob of people sick with typhus, cholera or tuberculosis entering the country. On top of that, remember that Medical treatment at the time was at best inadequate. There were no antibiotics nor vaccines widely distributed as we have today. Most of the Titanic bodies were actually recovered, only to be thrown overboard in high seas again by New York Harbour decision when they started to decompose. They were considered a health hazard if they were allowed to be disembarked.

Always compare the Titanic to the Andrea Doria of the Italian (40 years later) with an espresso machine at every bar, surrealist printed curtains in the second class cabins, a three dimensional mural in the first class lounge, and a pink and green mural of Italian motifs on the main wall of the third class lounge. Plus cabin telephones, complete air conditioning, private baths in first and second class - not in third, but numerous bathrooms for men and women in the latter class and sinks with hot and cold water in the cabins (at least one, many had two.

In 1912 missionaries, priests and nuns were still telling their converts and children not to bathe too often. A lot of Europeans as late as the 1960s felt that bathing once a week was too much. That idea seemed to fade when they got to America or Australia. Back in the 19th century American travellers said the first thing you noticed when your ship reached Southampton was the smell of the great unwashed. Asians continued to report that long after the war.

1900s sounds like a great time to be wealthy. imagine being so rich u have other humans flush ur toilet for u instead of flushing it yourself, ur allowed to treat poor people and commoners like they were, unwashed vagrants and 3rd class pestilence.
the best part about being wealthy in the 1900s is not so much the luxury or amenities, but the mere fact u do not have to live in flith and squalor simply because u are born of tbe filty proleteriat class.

My great aunt and her brother were booked on the Titanic, emigrating to the US from England. Luckily they had to cancel because he fell ill. Unluckily, he fell ill again on the ship they'd rebooked to cross on, and died on the way over and had to be buried at sea. I've seen the ship's manifest with their names on it, which was an eerie feeling. Anyway, at least one of them made it. If they'd gone on the Titanic, who knows if neither would have lived.

Anyone whos ever used a public toilet has shared a toilet with far more than 700 people. Ew. I think we all hate public toilets. Especially if you grow up in a house with more than one restroom and not a lot of family members. You come to expect total privacy. I often feel like George Costanza with public toilets. I know where to go and where to avoid in my city lol.

finding it funny that live chickens were allowed on board the ship and that wasn't an issue. Also after watching Ghosts of the Titanic as a kid once and owning a book about the wreck I have respect for the incident. they actually discovered some intact wares underwater during the expedition to navigate the sunken wreck, which shocked people at the time.

All this emphasis on bathing is silly. I have a shower three times a week whether I need it or not. When I was a boy I had a bath once a week and a fresh shirt twice a week with fresh starched collars daily. As long as I can wash my face and hands I am happy, and Im sure my friends feel the same way. Too much bathing is disgusting.

I read Captain Smith was suffering from horrible flatulence. Some passengers refused sitting at the Captain's table especially when baked beans were served for dinner. Smith boasted how he could clear a room which caused many first class passengers to shun him.

There was a French family that was going to emigrate to the U. S. They got detained in France due to the health of a daughter. They came several weeks later on another ship. They must have thought they were meant not to sail on the Titanic.

That was pretty interesting. I've never been one to want to go on a cruise at all. And no I would not want to share a bathroom or anything with other people. But this was really interesting to know how things were on a ship like that.

Everyone on-board got a free saltwater bath at the end of their shortened voyage, or a ride in a lifeboat.
Just a couple if the exclusive perks offered by the Whitesttar lines to the pasengers and crew on the Titanic.

The photo at 3: 14, isn't from the Titanic. It is from a docking port in NYC. The man in front, with the hat on is my Grandfather, who came here from Italy. I wonder how the creator of the video got this photo?

Maybe do a video about Lake Titicaca and the surrounding areas? I haven't looked through all of your stuff, maybe you've done it already. if so please disregard this comment. Thanks!

In the care home I used to work at, most residents only got a shower once a week. Some were lucky and got two, but most of the time they got none because we were always short staffed.

Jenny, the cat made it according to a Titanic crew member who got of the ship before she set sail. He saw the cat leave with her kittens and considered it an omen.
