There's like only 3 species of bats that actually feed of blood in hundreds of different other species. All the vampire bats occur in south and central America only. Right now, in 2022, in my state, the 3rd case of human rabies have been reported, all in indigenous tribes, all transmitted by bats. Rabies not only can kill you but it will kill you if you don't get the serum in less than 24 hrs, since the virus go to the brain by nerves system and once there, a person have little chance to survive. Less than 10 cases of survival after 24hrs of infection and in all cases the person had to go on induced coma for long time and in all cases there is some serious collateral effects, like blindness and paralysis. I love bats.

And the survey says ehhhh! Wrong dude. It all begin when order of the dragon was a big thing. There was a ruler named Dracul fron ancient Moldavia, like the devil. He had two sons. On was Vlad the impeller who drove ppl through stakes. And the folklore says a deceased person comes back from the grave to suck the blood of the relatives, has become a strigoi. Vampire to you. Then came Bram who adapted the folklore stories to a storie.

Princess Eleonore von Schwarzenberg was accused of being a vampire back in XVIII century because of her health issues, most likely cancer, and an autopsy was performed on her in order to pierce her heart before the burial. That was in eighteenth century in what is now Czech Republic. Not to mention Serbian lore surrounding vampires and werewolves!

I am cynically amused when someone talks about a past era as having a heavy belief in the supernatural, as though in the modern day psychics, tarot cards, horoscopes, ghost hunters, ghost sightings, alleged faith-healings, voo-doo and good luck charms aren't pervasive in the United States and abroad.

Excuse me, sir, but, given that the modern vampire myth (as opposed to 18th and early 19th c visions) was shaped in 1897 by an Irishman, and that vampire legends, although popularized in literature from the 1700s, are much older, why in heck are you putting it onto TB in America?

It doesn't surprise me that the American vampire hysteria was mainly confined to New England in the 19th century. After all, just two centuries earlier, the superstitious Puritans had the witch trials! Prior to the 20th century, New England was America's most superstitious region!

Vampire is a racist slur towards Celtic Druids. Its was thought that those with pale complexions & blood red hair was the undead & the hair became red from drinking ones blood. Hence why Gingers have no souls as the racial slur today. #REALHISTORY

Also that Vampires hate water - one stage of rabies comes with an acute fear of water or any liquid really - so bad you can't even drink. Because the Rabies don't want you to dilute that sweet, sweet Carrier-saliva.

Hm, no mention of how wealther Victorians would have cast iron cages built around the graves of their loved ones. It wouldn't matter if you came back from the grave if you were caged at the site.

Bats literally live in the wild Europe. The Idea they didn't know about them is ridiculous, sorry. Perhaps you meant to say they didn't know about vampire bats specifically

The narrator has such a cool voice. He also has a crazy, fun sarcastic humor and he knows how and when to use it! Keep the stories coming, Mr. Narrator.

Good thing I took this Vaccine when I was 14 years old. There's no evidence the BCG vaccine works for people over the age of 35. O. O

The idea of vampires goes back far further than that!
And bats were well known through Europe thousands of years ago.
