The Craziest Weapons Of War Leonardo Da Vinci Ever Invented

As the original Renaissance Man, Leonardo da Vinci did it all; the polymath was interested in everything from art to science to writing. The famous Renaissance artist's paintings, sculptures, and architectural achievements are as stunning as his intellectual contributions to history, anatomy, and mathematics. One of the areas where Leonardo truly excelled was inventing. While observing the world around him, Leonardo took copious notes and made sketches detailing his surroundings. In the process, he came up with practical and impractical mechanisms alike, many designed to be used as tools of destruction

As far as I know, he never invented any weapons. I think his inventions have been overblown. Since he was hired to create weapons, he made some drawings that looked goog on paper, but would never have worked in real life. Take the tank, for instance. It would not move because the cranks were drawn wrong. With that many cannons, it would have been too heavy to be used on regular roads. After one salvo, it would have been finished for the day. Black gun smoke would have filled the tank, and to reload the thing, the crew would have had go outside etc.
All in all, interesting drawings, but not inventions. The proof is the fact that these so called inventions never saw combat. Good video however.

I think the big takeaway is that this is a really smart guy who doodled in his notebook a lot and so a bunch of historians grabbed onto those doodles and blew them quite a ways out of proportion simply because he was a brilliant and well-known man. In a lot of ways, he invented most of these inventions in the same way that I as a 5-year-old invented Jurassic Park by drawing dinosaurs in a sketchpad. Yes, the guy was a genius. Yes, he invented weapons. But he also doodled. Smart people doodle. Not everything taken out of his personal journal after he died should be interpreted as a sophisticated plan to build a flying saucer with the special details specifically omitted.

I took a page out of Da Vinci's book in High school during a standardized test. I don't believe in those tests and it didn't affect my grade so I wrote the entire essay portion backwards but in a mirror you could read it perfectly fine. I actually did the essay correct and thoughtful, just backwards hahaha, I thought it was great, the teachers weren't impressed with my 0 lol, I was and even told em if they held it to a mirror is was easily understood and told em exactly what I did

Controversial but I kinda think he was kinda dumb because he didnt invent much of his designs and maybe instead of leaving things out on purpose is because he didnt know how it would work, like a kid has ideas doesnt know how to make them or something. This is my uneducated and un reaserched opinion.

Question: What was up with the other Leonardos that were from Vinci at the time? Did they go by their full names to avoid confusion and probable disappointment with exchanges like, I'm Leonardo da Vinci. [gasp] Really! No, not that one. Oh?
Just wondering.

He actually didn't have an interest in war, he had to in order to please his patrons for his other studies.
He actually included mistakes in his plans so they couldn't be stolen

a lot of people may not know this about him but in his younger years he also helped Ezio Auditore da Firenze on his quest to avenge the death of his father and brothers

There's a description for breach loading canons. Not exactly crazy as this is what is done today. Misleading title. I wanted crazy weapons but I got something else.

No mention of China inventing gun powder (800-900 AD? - And the first cannons/ hand cannons shortly after? Long before Europeans learned it from them.

The cheesy jokes are getting a little forced. They used to be a nice thing sprinkled in. Unlike the cowbell, we don't need more cheesy jokes.

Which Leonardo invention was the wildest? The one he drew up, looked at it for a moment, then crumpled up while saying, Na, that will never work.
