Mansfield was never more popular than Monroe. She made a big splash for a short time and was only a box office star for roughly 2 years that's it. she was more of a curiosity piece has her career continued, a forerunner to today's reality stars, although to her credit, she was always working whether nightclubs or b movies and so on, she worked, unlike today's famous for being famous stars. in 1962, the year of Marilyn's passing, she was given a golden globe for world's film favorite, sang for the president, was lauded in mexico as a living breathing goddess, and started a movie, fired and then re-hired at a much bigger salary, interviewed by LIFE magazine, and had a number of projects lined up. contrast that with mansfield who was dropped from 20th century fox, the same studio of Monroe.

This video was so on point. Jayne knew to get a mans attention first was to entice his optics! Next, salt and butter that delicious popcorn that enhance the taste. Make it abundant but in a teasing sort of way. You termed it perfectly. Over saturation can become the killer of something we like or love. Amazing how we promote our lives to make others happy but cant keep our own family unit intact! This mindset of over producing to sell was also the down fall of a company years later and formerly known as Fotomat! Just for the sake of making a point, Like Jayne, a new style of beauty arisen and people took notice, Like Fotomat, a new era in 1-Hour photo was born.

I was born in 1960 I've known of Marilyn Monroe all my life and heard James Mansfield's name only in the last 30 years I learned more today. Earlier on another video I had learned about the Mansfield bar and then I watched this video. I also was aware she was killed in a car wreck but unaware her daughter was an actress but know her from television. It's obvious that studios use and abuse stars and starlets but I will say Jayne Mansfield is absolutely no Sally Fields Sally Fields is the very good girl of Hollywood. Kind of saintly and scandal free

Sorry, well-made video but completely untrue. I am absolutely in love with Jayne but she NEVER rose to the height of Marilyn Monroe, not in 1957, not in 1962, not ever! She was always a B- level actress at most and nowhere reached the height of Monroe. She only made a few decent films such as The Girl Cant Help It and Promises Promises, the latter was only famous because she went topless.
Both women were loved, adored, and important, but please do not compare Mansfield to Monroe.

20th Century FOX tried to threaten Marilyn Monroe with Jayne Mansfield, but not only did MM not care, she took all of 57 and part of 58 off to have a family. 1957 was Jayne's only successful year. Jayne's contract was canceled in 62, before Marilyn died. Mansfield's fatal mistake was turning down the role of Ginger on Gilligan's Island because she still thought she was a movie star. Sad, and delusional.

I heard she was decapitated in the wreck but you guys didn't say it so I guess it's false. I also heard she was a Wiccan but that wasn't brought up either. Her daughter Mariska, refers to her tits as 'The Girls', and everybody on the set, especially the camera men know this. She'll ask Did you get the Girls in this scene?

Jayne Mansfield had an interesting appearance on the 1960s version of Match Game, according to a fellow guest; She ran out of outfits to wear on the show and borrowed the guests shirt and ended up stretching it out by the time she returned it. But for Jayne to stretch it out was and likely still is considered a top honor.

if she was planning so much of this, why did she leave the man who loved her dearly, ended up drinking a lot, ended up in an abusive relationship, and scrapping to get the roles she wanted? She was far too smart to just allow hollywood and such to only see her for her looks.

Foreign films are lesser than Hollywood films. Typical americocentric attitude other countries make movies as well.

Since she was really of a genius IQ its surprising that she didnt use her mind as much as God-given great looks. I suppose it was the times. But she definitely was ahead of her time in terms of understanding that she was a product to be marketed.

Funny how 60 years later, the average shmoe is more likely to think of MM as a mattressback opportunist than JM. To me its because Jayne was straightforward- Here it all is, whereas Marilyn was intent on portraying something that she was not.

Jayne was a strategist. Just like Marilyn, she played the public and played out to the image they wanted of her. She was intelligent too. Mariska is her spitting image. She reminds me a lot of her mother with her way of thinking.
