If this thing was in an Earth orbit, then I can tell you the miss was anywhere but near. if it sniped Earth from a solar orbit that's a bit more spicy but given its angle of approach, it would have had to be on a much more aggressive trajectory to actually impact the ground, and it likely would have exploded in the air anyway. The way these go into the atmosphere means they make about a quarter circle around the Earth by the time they're deep inside. At that point it will heat up and blow up through a very wide window. For it to have made impact before it explodes, it would have had to travel through a lot less atmosphere and that's only possible if it's flying at earth at nearly a perpendicular angle. That means it would have hit either deep in Siberia or deep in Europe. Any slight adjustment to its orbit or trjectory in space means hundreds of miles on the Earth's surface.
TL; DR
It wasn't that close to an actual ground impact.

When I worked at the Royal Ontario Museum in the 2000 s, I got to hold a meteorite the size of a baseball that was worth 250, 000, and was one of over 10, 000 that a farmer was legally obligated to donate to a museum after waking up to a shower of them pummelling his land back in the 80 s.
They gave him something like 15M for a certain number of them, but if they had to pay for every one America would have been broke haha
But imagine just waking up to a shower of 15 Million plummeting specifically to your land one night lol

I always find it incredible that in the 70 years since Immanuel Velikovsky wrote his two books Worlds in Collision and Earth in Upheaval they are never referenced when it comes to the biggest catastrophes to happen to the earth since the advent of mankind. Of course the scientific community could never admit to these events happening because they would have to admit they are wrong about the history of the earth. Everyone should read them. It is life changing.

I dont even remember this happening. I guess I shouldn t be too surprised, i dont watch or follow news in any way so unless my family remembers to tell me something like this I wouldn t know about it. It just makes my depression worse when I watch news. My little bubble is nice and people are thoughtful and kind. At least i can pretend they are if I dont have to watch the horrific things they do to each other.

This is one of those events that all of us Humans should at least have in the back of our mind as a possibility. The meteorite that made the crater in Arizona was only like 15 feet across or something crazy. It was made of Iron so the impact was severe. It s a huge crater. A bus size one of pure Iron could take out a large city and then some. I feel like its not a matter of if it will happen but when.

Yes I do remember when it happened. Though the dash cam footage was why. I don't remember much follow up information being made known about the damage done. That made it seem that it exploded in the air and that was that. Nothing to see here. Move along, move along!

Your group of basketball friends do NOT look like they just played an enjoyable, yet still quite scintillating basketball game. I'll NEVER TRUST u again weird History! U Notice how I didn't capitalize the w in weird History? - yeah that was on purpose! Boom!

I decided a long time ago, that if a meteor/comet/whatever wants to hit the earth and kill me, then come git some.
Like the old joke goes, I wanna go quick like my grandpa in his sleep, not screaming like the passengers in the car.

Man, when I was a kid I was a space show saying there was going ro be a huge meteor hitting the earth in 2012.
I would talk about it so much, then forgot about it. I remembered it again, and looked it up, sure enough it missed us!

Yeah, missed by several 10 to the power of several miles. That s not to say the multitude of several objects.
Alarmist, yes. We are going to kill ourselves way before then. I m fine with that.

Well it could have been worse you could have referenced that second Independence Day movie as a sequel that came years after the first. A movie made to pander to the Chinese and boy was it horrible.

For some perspective: The eruption of Mt. St. Helens volcano was 1, 600 times more powerful than the Hiroshima bomb. Makes this 1. 5 Greyhound meteorite seem somewhat tame.

There was no real danger from this meteor. If it had been an ASTEROID then maybe some destruction was possible. This dude doesn t know what tf he s talking about.

I guess you can't have it all. 3 movies referenced and only 2 bands, even though third time is the charm. But to compensate; please make a video about Emma Goldman!
