It's an iconic car, the DeLorean, made famous by its fundamental role in the Back to the Future movies - but do you know the man behind the car? Do you know the John DeLorean story? The DeLorean's namesake, John DeLorean, lived a life so intriguing that it's now the subject of two major movies. Framing John DeLorean, featuring Alec Baldwin, was released in July 2019, a mashup of documentary footage and reenactments of DeLorean's extraordinary path. A month later brought the arrival of Driven starring Jason Sudeikis and Lee Pace and detailing DeLorean's exhaustive - albeit questionable - quest to make the innovative, ethical sports car.

I'd totally buy one now if it was affordable and promptly engine swap it and update the electricals and electronics.
Better yet, if the current DeLorean company that owns what's left of the inventory could legally build them as they want to (cottage car laws and regs are well defined, something the US government has put off forever, with updated drivetrain and electronics, I'd buy that for sure.

In the early 90s, when I was a newly licensed driver, one turned up on a tiny used car lot near Scranton, Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania. I wanted it in the worst way but my father declared absolutely not because he thought the car was too high performance for me to be driving. In truth the 90 Nissan Sentra I was driving probably offered more performance.

Who has seen a genuine DeLorean in the wild? When I was a kid there someone in the town I lived in who owned one, so I saw it all the time. I was just curious how rare they might have been.
Post Script: I see that 9, 000 were made, so I suppose that's pretty rare lol

My Daddy told me about his days of racing John DeLorean down Woodward in his Studellac (not sure if that is spelled right. It was a combo of a Studebaker and a Cadillac. I've seen a few pictures too. It sounds like it was a time in his life he had a lot of fun.

I still love the Delorean. funny how a flawed car will live on while many more reliable cars will be forgotten lol It's still a stunner. very avant garde for it's day. Le's face it which car would you think would go into the future a Delorean or a Toyota?

I ve always said that if I win the lottery, I m gonna buy a DeLorean. I ve heard that you can buy a new one that s made from the parts that were left over from when the original plant shut down and that they work a lot better now.

This comment is irrelevant to THIS video: it's funny how these FIVE SECOND ads last EIGHT SECONDS with the delay counter stuck in ONE SECOND remaining. They know we're waiting to tap on that skip bar as soon as it appears

I actually got to see a DeLorean in Bakersfield, Ca, in 1982 or 83. It was parked outside of somewhere on N. Union Ave. and I saw the driver get in by lifting the door. I remember thinking what cool car that looked like.

If only 2 gold DeLoreans were made then they would be worth an absolute fortune today. I wish I had one. I would be happy to own a regular DeLorean. I would just fix the problems with them and enjoy this iconic car.

He also brought overhead camshaft engines to Pontiac decades before other domestic brands and he purchased Thiokol s snowcat division so there were Delorean branded snowcats for a couple years

I think it'd be cool to see a video on the Buick Grand National, the car that gave the Mustang and other muscle cars a run for their money.
Also, the history of the VW Beetle

There is a support group called The DOA, or The DeLorean Owners Association, where they help each other source parts for their cars. Their membership fees are a bit high.

A+ video!
What an awesome part of American and pop culture history.
It would be amazing if they corrected the mistakes for the car and sold it again.

Back in 1985 I had the poster on my wall with a pretty girl standing outside DeLorean with a license plate John D, with the caption things go better with Coke

I had a DeLorean Matchbox car growing up. When both doors were open, it could fly, because it looked vaguely like the flying dog from The Neverending Story
