William IV: The Maddest Lad To Ever Sit On The British Throne

Of all the monarchs to sit on the British throne in the modern era, few are as infrequently discussed as King William IV. It's a real shame, because the stories of his life are a real gas. Only the most dedicated of royal historians are probably familiar with facts about King William IV, but a close reading of his biography reveals a life filled with risk-taking, debauchery, and an anti-authoritarian streak that he carried with him right to the throne. In many ways, William IV was the original mad lad, and modern rogues could learn a thing or two about his particular brand of misbehavior. His actions certainly make him stand out among even the most bizarre English royalty. Chocolate: Nice job there President Georgie adding kidnapping a child to your repertoire! What were you thinking? Did you not think the King would be pissed off; how would you have felt if someone did this to Martha? But idk why I m surprised you were a tyrant slave owner working your slaves 6 days a week so kidnapper isn t as much of a stretch as one might think smh

William IV might not have been the greatest king, or the most dignified, or the most intelligent - but he's one of the most criminally underrated all the same.
Somewhat amusingly, the street named after him in the town where I live is at the centre of a great party/bar/restaurant crawling district, I have a feeling he'd like that a lot.

King Charles isn't crowned yet. Weird History made it sound like May has come and gone. What a screwed up line. Isn't it strange that a guy who should've never been king ended up passing his reign into a woman that should've never been queen biologically. And now look at the duds we have in there now. Ugh

a charming scoundrel that was a recklessly cool brat. and good call on him sticking around long enough to see his neice be old enough to not need a regient from what I understand his sister in law made Mommy Dearest. seem like the mom from little house on the prairie. lol

I'm of the mind that The Queen's death was the end of the Monarchy era of the throne, Charles's coronation is a bit pitiful in this day and age. The Queen on the other hand, had a helluva' resume' at a young age. a good resume'!

Video: King Charles. when he WAS crowned on May 6, 2023.
Me: I'm gonna laugh if for some reason he doesn't end up getting crowned on that day.

Aside from being pro slavery, this guy sounded awesome. First ruler (including modern day politicians in the US) who willingly chose to give up his fancy digs. That s pretty awesome.

Not only the King of England, but the absolute King of Petty for living just long enough to spite his sister in law. Gotta love how he held on until Victoria turned 18.

My father said, quoting someone, The best revenge is to outlive your enemies or live long enough to ruin their plans. A wise man who must have been thinking of William.

Not as mad as Twoimb Pullbuckle XXXI. He surfed a hurricane with his pet shark Gobsley in order to get to the top of an erupting volcano and ski down the lava wave.

What happened to those ten children he had with his mistress? Even if they couldn't be titled, I assume they were well provided for and never wanted for anything.

The King waa human and he had human qualities of success and failure like any human. I say his human nature would make him more enduring today but not in his time.

That s one hell of a take. Fascinating. All I previously knew was that slavery was prosecuted by the navy, whilst under his overlordship. somewhat of a contrast

I have a penny with his face on it as part of my collection of a penny from every English monarch going back to Charles I but I had no knowledge of William IV
