dear michael,
i am a HUGE fan of your work. even though i have limited exposure to your catalog of accomplishments, the after-hour series, your Harry Potter trilogy, and the things that must have happened bits are still some of the funniest things i've ever seen online. i think it's wonderful you joined the weird history team, which is a hilarious entity in its own right! personally, i always thought the original narrator sounds a bit like stephen colbert, which just kinda ads on a whole other layer of funny to it, but i digress.
FUN FACT: when making good fellas, ray liotta had a random stagehand sit in a chair in front of him when he recorded the narration. apparently they'd recorded a good bit of it before martin scorsese decided it sounded a bit too wooden. it turned out having someone to recite the lines too gave him the audience to connect with and thus gave the performance more depth and all that ish.
i dunno just something to think about. keep on keepin on, and i'll keep watching!

Literature. Lies that readers know to be lies, fiction, not truth, imagined stories. And no, myths did not exist back then, some classics believed Homer, some disbelived or doubted some parts but noone saw it as myth, noone commented Homer like you comment Harry Potter - for intriguing plot or realistic characters.
Today book mostly means fiction, sold and bought to entertain mind of reader by lies of author. There was no such books till recently.
And when literature teachers fail to extend phenomena to Ancient times, they try to say literature started with Shakespeer and Molier as rightly said in video, both of them wrote plays for theatres, it was not supposed to be books.
First literature were French fictional love stories usually secretly read by young ladies, which, as Pushkin said, make a girl totally useless (as all women with own view on how love should be, for they never read noone cheated, she never sent letter to another man, he never fell in love with her sister, their passion and love only grew year by year)

Funny you mention superman in your supermarket segment as originally, the Kent’s owned & operated a general store not a farm(technically they originally had a farm but them sold it & opened a general store in the silver age) The farm didn’t come back in the comics until the Christopher Reeves movie & was then ported back over to the comics themselves by writer John Byrne in the late 1980’s. You also should have mentioned that the first novel was not in fact Pride & Prejudice but was actually The Tale of Genji, a semi factual account of Heian(or high medieval) Japanese court life written by the noblewoman Murasaki Shikibu in the 11th century.

I was actually shocked to just learn that we only stopped using animal hair tooth brushes and made nylon bristles in 1937! And what we know of vanity dentistry really didn’t start until the 80s! (Veneers did exist but didn’t come into common use until around this time)
I also kinda want to add this: I realize again, toilets had already been invented but. My mom was born 1956 in a small town in Canada. They didn’t get an actual bathroom till the 60s. Used an outhouse.

Trenchers are not specially made, it is the bottom of a round cob’ loaf. When they were cooked in brick ovens the bottom was very hard and a bit burned so they cut them off and hey presto a trencher. All of the sauces and gravy soaked in and softened the crust so many times people ate the trencher too hence the phrase for someone who eats heartily being a good trencherman.

Interestingly, Helen Slater's birthday is on December 15th, she played Supergirl on the movie, awesome movie!

Hey, so in October you could do a series on inventions whose patent holders are not the inventors. The reason is, in some areas, black people weren't allowed into patent offices so white people held the patents for inventions made by black people. To this day people insist the patent holder is the invention even when all evidence says otherwise.

When I worked at the grocery store Herb's (Burwell, Nebraska, we knew all the customers and used equipment from probably the 1920s.
There was a huge Bach's Candy section, a coin-operated horse (it was free, the coin slot was disabled, and coin-operated vending machines.

I can't stand this narrator every time I hear his voice don't watch the video I love weird history but I will not watch them with him makes me think of somebody dragging their fingernails across the chalkboard nope nope nope and nope I wish they would just bring back the original narrator I enjoy hearing his voice and his humor

The Adventures of Pinnochio was published in 1883, the same year my hometown was platted.
War and Peace is an awesome novel! I read 10 pages of it every day till I completed it, I think it took 4 months.

When I was a little girl we lived in London, a small 2 room apartment, my parents and us three kids. We had a bath tub in the kitchen and went potty in the outhouse in the backyard. Us little kids usually used a pot in the house.

Um, actually moment: first modern novel used to be attributed to Don Quijote (published 1605 or 1603, can't recall now) and as of late has actually been shifted back to The Tale of Genji (1100s, earlier than Don Q)
