1993, what a crazy time to be alive! I'm surprised you didn't even mention that Rocko's Modern Life made its debut on Nickelodeon on September 18 as the network's fourth Nicktoon. This edgy animated series centers on the surreal adventures of an Australian wallaby and his friends in the fictional city of O-Town. It ran for four seasons, plus the 2019 Netflix reboot special, and launched the careers of voice actors Carlos Alazraqui (Rocko, Tom Kenny (Heffer Wolfe, and Mr. Lawrence (Filburt Shellbach, as well as Stephen Hillenberg, who served as the show's creative director, making it a spiritual predecessor to SpongeBob SquarePants.

When you see things like this, with a very high level overview and get a snap shot of the times that shows ran, it's really easy to see how differently you perceived time as a kid.
For example, Power Rangers started in August of 1993. I had to be 8 years old, and to me, Power Rangers was something that I watched for YEARS. but considering it only lasted 3 seasons (the original season, I only now realize that I was addicted to that show for the 1st season, and my interest wained during season 2 when they replaced some of the actors/actresses. I never actually made it to season 3. Wow.

I loved the original Power Rangers. My favorite character was Billy. I slowly stopped watching after he left. I was sad to hear that he was fired for being gay. I guess my gaydar was working back then. I seem to be gravitated towards anyone in the LGBTQ society. probably because I never felt like I fit in throughout most of my school years. I'm straight, but I seem to have been more accepted by them than any other group.

DS9, Animaniacs & the X-Files; in my top shows of all time. MST3K was close.
Btw, Niles didn't live with Frasier and their dad. He was married - after a fashion!
Also the majority of the shows you showed never made it to my side of the pond, so only the biggest shows are memorable. Though Pinky and the Brain is so memorable to me that I have a t-shirt with them on it. I only bought it a couple of years ago!

Coincidentally, I was just wearing a Mighty Morphin Power Rangers t-shirt before this video was made. As a matter of fact, I had merchandise of the show back when it first aired: bedsheets, pillowcases, toys, video games etc. You name it, they had it. Then one day at school for Halloween, a kid was dressed up like the Red Ranger, it was the coolest thing ever!

Ironic that Drew Barrymore and Alyssa Milano both starred in Amy Fisher movies as they both were in Poison Ivy movies with Barrymore in the first and Milano in the second.
Also you forgot to mention while talking about Pete & Pete it was the intro for most of us to Michelle Trachtenberg(RIP) as their neighbor Nona and her dad was played by Iggy Pop.

To think that the last vestiges of the 80's was Cheers of all things that had it's big finale and THEN the spin off of Frasier happened and it really catapulted NBC into the gulden age of shows like Seinfeld that was picking up steam and other shows that were the backbone of the NBC ESPECIALLY Law and Order when Jack McCoy came along.

1993, back when I was 15 years old. The live action cartoon, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, came out adapted from the Japanese version zyuranger something like that. And a lot of prime-time sitcoms, living single, boy meets world and dramas like X files debuted this year.

Fun fact: Bill Nye the Science Guy was a spinoff of Back to the Future: The Animated Series.
In fact, Bill Nye’s nickname was coined by Christopher Lloyd’s Doc Brown in a live action segment, when he asked derisively And who are you, Bill Nye. the Science Guy

As they run out of TV years to showcase, I'd really love to see this franchise branch out into other iconic events and things that changed year by year. Automobile design and their effects on culture would be a good one. Fashion would be another one.

Pete & Pete was my favorite Nick show growing up. I hate that they never did release the 3rd season on DVD. Supposedly, they had them made, but they never left a warehouse. Not sure why. Maybe music rights or something.

Why is Monday Night Raw referenced in your introduction while neglecting to acknowledge the longest-running episodic show that continues to air new episodes weekly This seems like an important point to highlight.

May 22, 1993: Saved by the Bell aired its final episode but would continue with two spin-offs; Saved by the Bell: The College Years on the same day and Saved by the Bell: The New Class on September 11, 1993.

I was born in 93 it’s cool this dropped today cause tomorrow’s actually my birthday. So many great shows that were staples to my childhood and shows I fell in love with later in life like The X-Files.
reply

I grew up watching the Adventures of Pete and Pete. It would put me in the mood to go outside and make something exciting out of ordinary and mundane things. In other words, life is what you make of it.
reply

I was born in 85, so all of those proved pertinent. I was a good time to be 8. . didn't realize how many now powerhouse celebrities came from that time. Buscemi in Pete & Pete blew my mind, though.

I still remember the phrase to know the difference between a coral snake and a milk snake because of Bill Nye: Red touches yellow, your a dead fellow. Red touches black, you're alright jack.

There was one _really big_ TV story as 1993 was winding down: When Fox outbid CBS for the rights to NFL football, triggering dozens of network affiliation switches from coast to coast.
reply

Few greater years for tv than 93. Bill Nye, power Rangers, bevis and butthead, pete and pete, and animaniacs were some of the most iconic kids shows. X files made this year next level.
reply

Thank you for the Pete & Pete shoutout! Such a great show that invokes so much nostalgia. I still listen to Hey Sandy by Polaris just to go back to the 90’s and simpler times.
