I usually have at least some idea as to what makes a blockbuster so successful. But, Top Gun will always be a TOTAL mystery. I was 9 in 1986, and I thought it was boring! I remember other kids my age saying the same thing. You still hear people say it's not a good movie. How did word of mouth not cause it to bomb! It REALLY just ISN'T a good movie.

I saw both Labyrinth and Transformers the Movie in theaters. I remember for Labyrinth, when the Goblin King appeared, Bowie's. area drew a bunch of whispers and chuckles.
TFTM, I was unaffected by Prime's death, by that point, I had seen anime in Japan, so death was common. I don't remember anyone crying though.

All these classics and cult classics back when each one was a trip to the movie theater. You had barely any idea what you were going to see apart from the posters, short blurry TV spots, and if you were lucky a trailer before another movie. That's why movie critics were a whole profession.

I never realized how many classics were released in '86. My late father took my lil brother and I to see most of the these movies. I was 12 and my bro 9 back then. I definitely remember going to the theaters for Top Gun, Little Shop Of Horrors, Crocodile Dundee, Short Circuit, Rocky IV, etc.

So many good movies in 1986. We saw Transformers: The Movie at the theater, and I was five years old when it released. My brother and I were astounded at all of our favorite Transformers getting killed like they did. That movie is a certified classic, and we still love it.

So many of my favorite movies were this year. Labyrinth is hands down one of my top 5 favorite movies. Plus, I loved Howard the Duck, Stand By Me, Short Circuit and and Space Camp; I really wanted to go after watching that movie. It had a huge impact on my childhood.

I can't lie. 9 year old me was legit upset after begging my mom to take me to see The Transformers: The Movie and then seeing Optimus die. I can still vividly remember that moment! I guess it's a core memory. Lol crazy how something like that can stick with you.

Wow, I can't believe that these movies will be 40 years old next year. My favourites would be Stand by Me, Peggy Sue Got Married, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Little Shop of Horrors, The Money Pit, Children of a Lesser God, An American Tail, Pretty in Pink and Aliens.

11: 18 Come on, guys! Those are the wrong clips. You used footage from A Better Tomorrow II (1987) instead. Technically, the first film wasn't John Woo's action debut since he had already directed lots of martial arts films by then, which is a subgenre of action.

There were a few classic movies in 1986 like Ferris Beuller's Day Off, Aliens Pretty in Pink and a few others but Howard the Duck has to be one of the worst movies of all time, although Little Shop of Horrors was nothing to write home about either.

1983 to 1985 were blockbuster years. 1986 seems more like a cult classic year pretty in pink, big trouble in little China, Critters, short circuit, labrynth, Little shop of horrors, Transformers, the fly, and Maximum overdrive kind of lean into the trend.

I was compelled to walk out of Little Shop of Horrors by my boyfriend. What a putz! I wish I had stayed back then, I love that movie so much! Also, Cary Grant's passing was the end of an era. Arsenic & Old Lace is one of my all-time favorite movies.

1: 14 The Legend of Zelda now has 33 video games!
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild won Game of the Year in 2017!
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time was voted Best Game of All Time by Metacritic!
That is incredible staying power!

My former neighbor played the Japanese kid who appeared briefly in Space Camp despite he is half Thai and German - I think he met his wife at Huntsville too - he was just a regular kid they pulled from SC attendees - never acted before or since.

This is awesome! I was 12 in 1986, and my dad would take me to the movies almost every Saturday for his visitation, and I saw just about ALL of these movies in the theater! ( with the exception of a few that were not age appropriate-of course)

Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Labyrinth was the reason why I became, and still am, a die-hard David Bowie fan. I was seven when the movie came out and absolutely fell in love with Jareth (they didn't do a good job trying to convince us he was a bad guy, let's just say.

man didn't really all the greats came out in '86. and aliens is the only movie that has ever scared me. granted most horror films are formulaic and contrived and i was a little kid at the time, but it is still scary.

Back when Hollywierd actually made good ORIGINAL movies. Now days everything is just a remake of an 80's movie where they have to change the males to females and throw in lgbtqbbrq what ever type of person as well.

From that year, I loved HANNAH AND HER SISTERS, PEGGY SUE GOT MARRIED, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, AN AMERICAN TALE, ALIENS, HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER, STAND BY ME, GOTHIC and BLUE VELVET the most, I think.
