How the Roman Colosseum Was Built

One of the world's most notable feats of architecture is the Colosseum in Rome. Opened in 80 CE by Emperor Titus, this massive structure existed solely to entertain the masses with gladiator fights, animal skirmishes, and, at some point, miniature naval conflicts. While it only took the Romans less than a decade to construct the Colosseum, careful calculation and planning were required. Architects and workers put extensive thought into every detail, from the amphitheater's architectural symmetry to its complex underground maze of corridors and capstans. For centuries, we have tried to imagine what occurred in the Colosseum, fleshing out a gory fantasy in film and media. For instance, the movie Gladiator, for all its inaccuracies, attempts to create an image of how Romans lived and fought. What we don't see is the grueling work - typically done by enslaved people - it took to put on one of the Colosseum's gruesome shows. Like sex in Ancient Rome, gladiator fights were about power, both of the Roman empire and of individuals. The complexity and grandiosity of the Colosseum's construction helped to assert that power all the more

What do I think? I will say. when ever history is been told and the details are ambiguous it tells me either the presenter do not know or something is been hidden. For example, it is said the Romans built the Colosseum, at other times it was Jewish slaves. This is the question I am asking. Since I know it takes and immense amount of knowledge in mathematics, building maternal, architecture, engineering and design to erect any structure, especially something as grand as this. It require a skilled labor force, of blacksmith, stone masons carpenters and so forth.
Will someone tell me of one just one institution coming out of Europe that teach, train and educate anyone in these disciplines?
Please, show me any where in Europe that buildings were built in such a way and magnitude to suggest the European had such knowledge and experience.

Surprised that you left off some really interesting facts. The Colosseum was funded by spoils stolen from the Jewish Temple the Romans destroyed after the Jewish-Roman War of 70 AD led to the Siege of Jerusalem. The Arch of Titus literally depicts Romans carrying the stolen Menorah and other treasure from the Jewish Temple (that perhaps the Vatican stole and still has. 60, 000 Jewish slaves helped to build the Colosseum. This was the start of the diaspora; that is, Jews living outside of Judea after many of them were forced out as slaves. (Note that there was no mention of Palestinians in Roman history, because they simply didn't exist, for those that follow the I/P conflict; Palestinians are a modern invention of pan-Arabic identity created by Yasser Arafat; an Egyptian)

So much about the Roman culture boggles my mind. How can one culture and people so advanced for its time crash and burn in such a relatively short span of time after such a long existence? Heck, future generations of humans had to relearn technology's founded and invented by the Roman's just to come close to being considered to be equal to people hundreds of years their predecessor. I guess cruelness and barbarity and disbelief in God is the death note of any society, probably why the modern world as we know it is crashing and burning. Hail Satan, right?

haha even barbarians knew that romans did not build it. there is not in it a single element, measure or position that are the same, jea it looks fine and geometric in global-i but in detail-it is not possible for human to do it in this manner, even if they are total total idiots: , so people didn't make it, they only claimed it, ornament it, paint it and done crazy things in it. and selling story to the neighbours what great civil we are/ destined the rule the world. hahaha fake from the core and start.

You see with your EYES what the bottom looks like. Right? And then you show modern drawings of boats in the arena. Then you say they filled it with water. Really, we know the city was at least flooded 2wice. So, stop acting like what you see compared to what people told you are facts. This presentation is a lie. The city was buried. You dug it out, but you didnt build anything from the past that still stands.

I wish there was a way we could time travel to see significant events in human history. The construction of the coliseum, Egyptian pyramids, ancient Greek structures, pyramids of Mexico and South America, Stonehenge, etc. That would be bad ass. Even seeing medieval castles being built would be fantastic. Can you imagine all of the information and technology thats been lost throughout history?

I am confused, and if I am merely ignorant then please feel free to correct me. If we are talking about the great Flavian Amphitheater that is in Rome, then why is the Greek word for underground important? The Latin word for underground is Sub-terra, but again if I missed something please let me know.

if in the colosseum, there were scenes of naval battles, I'm curious where those triremes came into the arena and where they were taken out of the arena to have access to another scene of ex battles, animal fights and gladiator

If the feet of the Romans on average was, 11 inches, then the Romans were not as short at all, as Jealous, no civilization having Anglos and Germans like to believe. The Romanson average must have been 5. 9 to 6 feet tall.
reply

How the roman colosseum was REALLY built was by plundering then burning down SOLOMON'S TEMPLE(GOD'S HOUSE, Jerusalem. They took the Gold, Silver & jewels, that's how.
reply

The Colosseum was financed with the gold plundered from the destruction of the Second Temple in Jerusalem, with the help of tens of thousands of Jewish slaves.
reply

Not true. The Colosseum is built upon the pool where the giant statue of Nero stood (colossus) which is why the arena is named Colosseum.
reply

You left out the weirdest fact. The 10 year construction cost was paid for with the Jerusalem Temple destroyed and looted in 70 AD.
reply

Not unkown. It was master builder Haterius. His building projects were shown on his tomb and one of the images is the coliseum.
