Good attempt, but lost some points for using 'static, ' and 'render' for kids, and for choosing computer science and gaming students - that does not accurately depict the average person's understanding of VR at their respective ages. Also, not much of acknowledging the interviewed people's answers, just going straight into another point. Not even an -exactly, - or -that's correct, - maybe it's just the editing though. Also, I feel like the expert spoke clearly and actually acknowledged John's points so for me, he kind of stole the show presentation wise at the end.

It would be interesting to implement theses ideas into augmented reality so that less detail would be needed in world scapes and more into the -idea / or simulation-, and implementing like light sensors that would adjust the sim with surrounding lighting as well as distance sensors for focal adjustments, at this point in time for a fully immersive experience, based on my train of thought, a dedicated space would need to be utilized to for immersion, somewhat like a escape room with virtual components

fun fact for those who don-t know John Carmack: as a child, him and other children used thermite to break into their school to steal a computer, after being arrested and being mentally evaluated by a professional, John was described as a -brain on legs-
him saying he-s -just- a VR engineer is basically saying a Navy Seal is just a cop

i have a solution to the problem of determining where the eyes are looking, and this solution will also make it so screens won't be needed or cameras, instead spears that plunge right through the users eyeballs (rendering them permanently blind) and connect directly into the brain and pipe the video signal directly in.

The point Carmack makes at the end about optimization is key. In fact it's a shame that optimization took a back foot to beauty and graphics with the availability of more powerful hardware, but then again there's such a thing called timelines in game development.

Given how little the people who make these types of videos seem to know about anything even remotely related to the subject matter, I wouldn't be surprised if they only called him a VR engineer because they didn't know he basically pioneered 3D graphics

I find that at a certain level of expertise or brilliance, you won-t find a lot of people that will talk about it to show off because their past the point of that. If you look at everything he says it-s to educate not prove he knows it

My cousins played VR using a mobile phone.
They said it was meh.
So I let them play Job Simulator using my HTC Vive and it completely changed their perspective of VR.

I'm surprised he was able to describe things simply hahaha. no no kidding. a decade or two ago he described ray tracing and it was simple to understand.
