A decade ago, the idea of self-driving cars on American city streets was almost unthinkable. But a series of contests spurred the development of software and hardware that have brought us to dawn of the next automotive revolution

We get it that self driving cars might be a good solution for traffic congestion, but it will cause harm that we are not ready to face. They will cause massive unemployment among the majority working in the transportation industries. They will reopen the door for highway city concept and motor cities witch will cause further defragmenting communities: More space needed for cars, roads, parking. Services will be further apart and all small businesses will cease to exist. More urban sprawl witch results in ghetto cases and inequality among citizens. Remember that the further communities spread the more difficult to provide basic services like electricity, clean water and internet connection as it will require much more infrastructure investment. Electric cars will have a worst impact as the toxic waste generated from mining and cheap labour used that go against all human rights will have an even worst impact on communities.
As communities, governments and corporations, it is necessary to invest in public transportation systems to make cities denser and reduce the impact on the environment.
I hope You become more careful with what you advertise on your platform and ty to show the dark side of those technologies.

if the whole existing road system could be rebuilt from the ground up, I believe our technology is at a stage where driverless cars could be 100% functional and 100% safe. of course that's next to impossible, but the point stands: the biggest challenge to driverless is the roads themselves.
imagine how easy it would be if we could do away with all our roads and design the driverless car and road to work together. at the moment, the problem of driverless cars is really the problem of artificial intelligence

When I heard Grand Challenge, I had a cat-like grin on my face as I remembered the Hummer H1, called H1ghlander. That was my favorite car for a long time. It was in the 2005 Grand Challenge. The Hummer H1 still sits as one of my favorite cars of all time, in part because of H1ghlander: D

I remember seeing the first two desert races on an episode of _NOVA_ on PBS. I was amazed at the progress made. I also felt bad for the motorcycle team (Ghost Rider. They had an innovative machine and it only failed because of a small mistake right at the start.

Just thinking about -Self Driving cars- makes me a bit scared. like, come on.
Also, where-s the fun in having a car then D:
Wouldn-t it be better to just catch a ride from a friend or something like that?

Autonomous Vehicles, not a good idea. First, trying making planes 100% automatic. And another question that arises is whether thesr cars will be able to refill the fuel or not. Not everyone can and will buy Tesla.

I would love a self driving car for when I arrive in busy city centres like Birmingham etc or in rush hour motorways traffic where speeds are slower.
When the road opens up, I want to take over.

Would be cool but boring to see an autonomous F1 race. They could drive faster than the G forces would allow humans and be a lot less cocky than the real divers today haha

Hmmm.
So they tested with Californian Laws.
What if they test in a different country? Like Finland, the UK, or maybe Japan?
