At this year's Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, we may see quad corks in Big Air Snowboarding or in Freestyle Skiing -- and we'll see quad twists and quad jumps in Figure Skating. But have we reached the limit of what's possible? To do a quad, a skater's got less than a second to turn their body four times in the air. WIRED's Robbie Gonzalez set out to find out why five. is almost impossible

Jumps are one thing but what competitive pairs due in skating is really another level of athleticism. So while I can respect those quads I have more awe over triple flips while throw in the air high over ice or holding a 120lb partner over your head on one arm while you are spinning down the ice with the other arm pointed at the crowd. For example Savchenko and Massot 2018 Gold Olympic performance.

It is a pity that Nathan didn't consider training for 4A. This could be another world record on top of him landing the most number of quads ever in a program. With his atheletic build, strength and technical proficiency, he would have been able to do the full rotations compared to skaters with a more feminine build like Hanyu who attempted but failed.

didnt the quad era started way back 1990-2020? i believe thats when fs was criticised for lacking artistry because of skaters doing too many quad jumps with long loading time or entry. chen didnt start the quad era. he may be well known for his quads and landing all five quads in one program and may be the most perfect in quads, technically.

Then 4. 5 rotations seems right up to the edge of almost impossible -- Hanyu Yuzuru's attempt at the quad axle, which is 4. 5 rotations -- he got 4 of those rotations in the Olympics (2022, nearly got but two footed the landing in Japan Nationals 2021 -- so close so close

Yet Marcus klevland is dropping corks off the knuckle of the jump where there is no jump or kicker as we call it in snowboarding. Marcus is an amazing snowboarder and to see just how good he is check out his edits and the knuckle huck comps in 2020 in aspen and Norway.

And here we are, Eteri turberidze-s juniors are already training quinta on harnesses, and Alexandra trusova over rotated her quad salchow in worlds this year. what a time we are in

Yuzuru Hanyu did a quadruple axel in the Olympics that was ratified. A quad axel is 4. 5 rotations so maybe a quint is possible since it's just half a rotation more

Canadian figure skater Kurt Browning was the first person to complete a quadruple jump, landing a quad toe loop at the 1988 World Championships in Budapest.

By now noone even landed a Quadruple Axel, because this needs actually 4 and a half turns. But I think, there will be soon Skaters to manage this jump.

i think yuzuru hanyu could do it. he has the 4A and that-s 4 1/2 rotations. all he needs to do is add another 1/2 and the. he-s get it.
