-10: 09 I get the simple correlation that being taller (w/ everything else the same) means faster but that looks more like evidence that tennis players can't be confidently pre-assessed based on their physical attributes. But I wouldn't be surprised if multiple deviations could be explained by technology, age, weather, time of day, susceptible opponent, willingness, etcetera. There could be a perfect-looking correlation that hides a wealth of oddities, like a really tall man serving the fastest serve ever in very suboptimal conditions. In this shallow example, the man's serve would have had results as poetic as it appeared in the hypothetical still-historic record if all variables were achievably optimal. Or a shorter man holds back 10% with those same near-perfect conditions and helps to maintain this accessible way of deducing the correlation. Wired does well to explain numerous factors but I'd have maybe left the chart for the very end and stressed the whole having an in with gravity v. having it in for gravity and other crazy factors after that since there's a lot that goes into getting the output.

Is it just me or is the -let's find a current world record and then say everything beyond that is almost impossible- thing getting tiring. like what does -almost impossible- even mean. If it's possible, then it's not ALMOST impossible, it's just possible! Possible is literally the opposite of impossible. It's like saying your toast is -almost burnt. - If it's not actually burnt, then who cares! Almost impossible could be literally anything. Me getting out of bed in the morning is almost impossible, but I usually get it done anyway! -Actually Impossible- would be a more interesting premise that would actually mean something and not give them a thousand loopholes which add up to just meaning -This Is Really Hard- (which is something that. we already knew.

I think an effective volleyball jump serve is harder. It takes so much practice to do a decent jump serve. I think my height kinda plays into the difficulty but yeah. Also, doing it consecutively is absolutely exhausting, 3 serves in and you feel drained. It's demands stamina and too many steps. I am also talking about a formal jump server, which a coach would suggest. Tennis has alot of similar principles as vb, very fun.

Why can-t tennis players hit a 160 mph serve? Because there are two basic limiting factors with traditional service motions (platform stance and pin-point stance): (1) Power off the ground. (2) Use of the pronated wrist. There is a way to break the 160 mph barrier using simple physics in connection with human biomechanics. That-s what I do as Professor Tennis: take a Quantum Leap in thinking with the Physics of Tennis.

-Almost Impossible- in your title is good clickbait. As an engineer, and pretty good server back in my youth, i hoped for measurable evidence for the 'theory', but. nevertheless, I enjoyed watching your enthusiastic video and appreciate your courage to compare limitations of your serve vs. top servers of today.

It would-ve been better if they could-ve at least used a novice player, this guy knew nothing about hitting a serve- like a beginner wasn-t doing one single thing right and he still didn-t believe he was that bad. Seriously he was just jumping straight up and hitting the ball with his body torso opened up.

Only a serial killer would say a tennis serve is a incredibly complex stroke. It's too bad tennis became a Summer of Sam game. it's weird Europe is the best at tennis right now.
Tennis serving is not too difficult. Finding sane humans to play tennis with, that's the complex part.

7 ft may help with the serve but it hurts regular play. No player taller than 6-4 has ever reacher the top of ATP rankings. If you wanna crush balls under 5-10. Your gonna have couple technique and form with core power. Meaning exercise for explosive power.

This would have been so much better if they had used a reporter who at least played tennis to a reasonable club level and not someone who looked like they played once a year with the girlfriend when the weather turned nice and Wimbledon was on the Telly.

I remember back in the 80's the South African player Yohan Kriek who was only about 5'9- tall, one year on the tour he served the most aces. He also served the most double faults that year, but boy was he great to watch!
