A recent F. D. A. study shows that certain chemicals in some sunscreens can seep into and remain in people's blood. To find out what that means for staying safe in the sun, WIRED's Robbie Gonzalez spoke with dermatologist Dr. Kanade Shinkai

This year the FDA gave warning to all Sunscreen manufacturers that NEXT year they would be cracking down on all the chemicals used, that there are NO studies of effects of their long term use. They said you have a year to sell of your current stock then have to remove untested chemicals or we pull it off the shelf.
The problem is the mineral sunscreens paint you white, and are safe but hard to spread and make you look pastey. The chemical ones are clear, absorb better, feel good going on, moisturize your skin etc. So you have to suffer for health, smh.
New method I saw on vacation recently was wearing long sleeve and long pants wetsuit like outfits. Just cover your body as much as possible so the sun cant hit you.

What about the problems sunscreens also cause to aquatic life? Chemical sunscreens being potentially toxic to fish and other aquaric life, as well as sunscreens floating on the surface of the water disrupting the life cycle of organisms dependant on sunlight, which then disrupts the life cycles of animals that eat those organisms are real concerns related to sunscreen use. It's almost like maybe, as a society, we should learn to use self control and moderation and just keep ourselves out of the sun as much as possible during peak hours rather than trying to slap a chemical bandaid on the problem. --- Thanks for this video, you're one of the extremely few who has dared to question the -religion- of sunscreen at all.

-Harmful unless proven otherwise-, that's the correct safety standard. Today's totally risky attitude by scientists and government are not honest or sensible!
for example a huge part of human genome is being affected by something and a logarithmic increase of Autism diagnoses is taking place
When i was a kid, in the 1970's, a whole year would go by without me witnessing a single person with autism, now i see several every day!
The interviewee is lying, there is no onus on anybody for anything!

It-s really very simple. We don-t know if those chemicals are harmful to our bodies. Clearly the companies in question are not making the necessary testing their top priority, so guess what; pulling their products off the market IS NOT an extreme measure. Let-s save politics for the congress. Doctors (and any public service provider) best interest is with their patients and not with big companies. There is enough probable cause to think they are not acting in good faith

Conclusions: Smearing chemicals onto your skin (which is a permeable filtration organ) is perfectly safe (come on, everything is technically a chemical anyway; ) probably, maybe, we don-t know, sure go for it, what is the worst thing that could happen? Put it on your baby! Put it on your wife! Put it on your grandma! Just don-t go into the ocean-we do know it kills coral reefs (permeable filtration systems of the oceans) and most likely other animals too. Happy sunning!

Definitely a very useful video but they forgot to discuss a very important topic, which is how sunscreens affects the ecosystem.
A lot of chemicals contained in these creams can damage the seas.
So much focus on how sunscreen can affect humans and not even half a mention about the fact that we are polluting the seas by wearing it.
They are not even focusing on producing healthier and less polluting alternatives.
Humans, such selfish creatures.

LOL for various reasons they have not done these studies to prove sunscreen safety even though we've been using it for several decades now? What are those various reasons? LOL but somehow we know for certain that the sun is what's causing the cancer not all the other toxic chemicals that are constantly getting put on to our bodies and absorbing into our bloodstream hahaha

Great interview and praticable questions. It's hard to imagine that we have chemical sunscreen for so long and we don't have the data of those 4 chemical absorption into our bloodstream. Based on the way she respond, I have the feeling she cannot say what she already know. The sunscreen Lobby must be pretty worried about the outcome of the study.

she said, -we don't really know, - moving on, animal studies is all the research that's been done - what's next? I love how we expect the sunscreen manufacturers to run testing on themselves, nothing wrong here - eyeroll! Wearing sunscreen is still a good idea. You mention studies, please list them to review the findings. ty!

- Damned if we do, Damned if we don't. A Hobson's choice. A rock and a hard place. A dither and a quandary. Everything is a Kobayashi Maru scenario. Up Sh-t Creek without a paddle. A lose/lose scenario. Can't win, can't break even. FOL. SOL. Deal with the devil. Shoulda done this, shoulda done that. Too late for apologies.
