Biohacker Michael Laufer recently had a 512GB drive implanted in his leg, which can store data, stream music or movies, and power a hot spot and mesh network. It's called the PegLeg, and WIRED's Daniel Oberhaus spoke with Laufer about the device and the field of biohacking. For more of Daniel-s reporting on Laufer, his PegLeg and Biohacking technology, visit WIRED. com

Becuade he is a jackass wanting attention, there no point in doing this as within 8 months there will be better tech that could go in his leg hence why we keep technology outside the body so it can be updated and changed when needed, this literally does nothing to help anyone at doing anyone other then saying -hey look at me I got a out dated chip in my leg that I tell people about and when they ask why I say biohacking without realizing that terms literally does not mean what it implies. - your not hacking anything buddy lol

I don't think the interviewer asked the hard questions such as what are the long term health effects on this? How is the biocompatibility in the long term? What happens if the implant is faulty or technologically obsolete? Also in my opinion self medication without proper training and education and experience is a recipe for disaster; you can know what you put in but you don't know what you should know and the risks. Just because you know how and what it is doesn't mean it's safe.

I suspect Mr. Laufer may have considered the fact that he cannot ever have a medical diagnostic procedure involving a Magnetic Resonance Image. My guess is two things may occur. First - it might get pulled right out of his leg. Second - data stored on the Pegleg device could possibly be corrupted by the magnetic field of a MRI.

im working on a implant that is just a bluetooth storage device. im surprised he didnt go any further than just an arduino basically. if he got the wafers and shrank the system down way further and built it on a flexible pcb. it would be way more effective to me. this is a cool video though.

Hello biohacker.
With the PegLeg I think this type of device can be detected in some security facilities i mean it's a cool idea though but you might not be able to enter some places with this implantation at least for a security purpose can you?

For those of you who dont know you have to replace the sd card on a raspberry pi every 2 years when they break so this was not very well thought out for when your storage breaks and no longer functions

does this implant only go on the leg, coz i have an other place i wanna put my wifi hotspot on, my partner will enjoy this, so either we make love or connect to the internet but we can't do both lol

-Understand it well enough- dude its a raspberry pi zero with a wireless charger coil, if a cop tases you, youll be able to at least dodge a surgury where you will faint again cucky boii

Do ppl get their medis storage devices scanned /inspected every time they travel, or actually at all? I have nevet seen it happen, n if it doesnt then what's the point?

Sub, sub culture with in the biohacking sub culture? Come on, what is the true purpose other than what I believe to be poor decision making. Please inform me.
